Fight Analysis
This fight is between 2 fighters who haven't fought in a while. For Cullum its been 3 years, for Gomez 1 year. It's a real weird fight because Gomez is extremely one dimensional and Cullum is an enigma.
For Cullum to win this fight he needs to keep the fight standing and bang on Gomez. The problem is its hard to gauge how good his hands are because he always goes to the ground where he hunts for submissions. This has caused him issues in fights against Iminari and Tokoro as his BJJ at that time (3 years ago) wasn't tight enough to fend off sweeps and submissions. If his plan is to go to the ground with Gomez he will be in trouble.
Gomez on the other hand knows his game and needs the fight on the ground. his hands are below average, but its hard to say who is better at striking Cullum or Gomez. Additionally, Gomez has very poor MMA takedowns. His shot is not very good, and his clinch into takedown has proven ineffective against elite competition. However, I believe there is a strong possibility that Cullum is going to take Gomez down or Gomez is going to trip Cullum, if this happens Cullum will be in a world of trouble.
Cullum hasnt fought in 3 years, so its hard to tell if hes improved. However, if his style is the same as it was 3 years ago, Gomez should dominate him easily on the ground. I believe the line will come out at Gomez -250 to -300. I am not going to put a bet on this fight unless Gomez comes out closer to -200, and I wouldn't touch Cullum with a ten foot pole.
I have 5 units on Gomez at -120.
