No it didn't. 'With covid' doesn't mean covid was the cause of death.

Countries are already scaling down the death rate - the UK shaved off 25% of deaths not that long ago, stating that covid was not the cause of death, it was merely present when the person died of something else. 25% doesn't sound like much, and in the grand scheme, it isn't really - but at the time, it equated to around 32,000 deaths which is a lot of fucking incorrect deaths to report. I fully expect that number to be corrected again by spring 2023.

All countries were using 'with covid' not 'from covid', that is beginning to change now as countries start evaluating what's happened over the past two years.

I believe that systemic racism is real, and needs to be addressed.

I believe that vaccine hesitancy is silly and antivaxx rhetoric is irresponsible.

The two things are not mutually exclusive.

You can diminish the impact and quibble over the numbers if you really want, but it's not debatable that COVID(especially the first wave when no one was vaccinated) is a far more deadly virus than influenza.

And to dismiss a global pandemic that killed millions of people as "a mild cold" is not just dishonest, it's also extremely stupid and insensitive to the people who lost loved ones.

We've been using blacks as involuntary human guinea pigs for medical testing going back for well over 100 years, and we were still doing it in the 80s with AIDS drugs so this isn't something that's buried in the mists of history, IT WAS HAPPENING IN MY LIFETIME (that's a Geneva Convention violation by the way). Tuskegee is probably the best known example but it continues all the way to the NYC foster child case in the 80s where a large group of black and Latino foster children were involuntarily signed up for and used for testing various AIDS drugs.

There's a damn good reason blacks don't have the same kind of trust in the medical system that others do, and telling them "trust us, this time it's all kosher" has got to be one of the most ignorant and infuriating things that someone can say.

If there was any western country primed to become a western version of China - with all the dressings - it's Canada. The Canadian Federal Government is being made to look foolish, at a public hearing into the Emergency Act being employed against the trucker protestors, for trying to make the protest into a January 6th moment. But where did the January 6th moment actually happen?

The USA, but not Canada, have a federal mandate, upheld in the Supreme Court, for all healthcare workers (providing Medicare/Medicaid paid services) to receive the Covid-19 vaccine.

The USA, but not Canada, have a mandate for all visitors to the country to be Covid-19 vaccinated.

I hope both countries will prevail over the latest public health lunacy.
