Many threads on this and the food is hit or miss. Plenty of western chains if you aren't adventurous. I'm in Chinatown (Binondo) Manila right now and the food has been excellent. But you should lower your standards, avoid the tap water, and get some loperamide when you eventually get the squirts.Going to manila and palawan. Scared of eating the wrong food.

I'm sure I'll get those . I'm going to bring a couple boxes of powerbars just in case. Many threads on this and the food is hit or miss. Plenty of western chains if you aren't adventurous. There is a nice mall in the Rockwell area of Manila that had some decent places to eat. If you want a good steak, go to Outback in Makati. I avoided the food stands on the street and small restaurants. IMO, the Filipino food in San Diego was better because they use better quality of meats.

Brb going around the world to go to a mall....and there’s an outback in literally every major us city....why eat outback in a foreign country unless you’ve been there forever and are just homesick...

The restaurants at the Mall were secured and much cleaner than the street shops. The Century City Mall area is blocked off from the beggers and street people.
I ate at Outback because I wanted a good steak. This was my other option that everyone bragged about. I wasn't impressed with the sanitary conditions of the meat.

maybe i could help...but need some info.. are you filipino? born in the US? how old are you? how long are you staying? family trip or business?
Maybe my standards are lower since I lived in Asia for almost 7 years but just fucking lol @ tourists who show up in interesting new places and want the exact same things they can get at home.
I’d have eaten at that local steak house in a heartbeat before eating at an outback on a trip to the phillipines. I don’t want to sound to harsh but I hate people like you, after seeing them and hearing them bitch about local food in foreign countries it just makes me sick.
I used to work with a guy who wouldn’t shut the fuck up about how tanjuat such bullshit it was that he couldn’t find a deli or a burger at the drop of his hat in china. “Why don’t these people just learn how to make a good fucking burger”. Dude spent 3 years in china complaining and eating Pizza Hut and kfc and completely missing out on the experience.
I've made numerous trips to the Philippines and have family over there so I don't just eat at the Mall or Outback...LOL After spending months over there, a nice Steak and Baked Potato at Outback hits the spot. I'm just saying the food quality sucks over there. I never got sick over there, but it's not the best cuisine I've ever tasted. I only eat certain dishes (adobo, pancit, lumpia. etc.). I stay away from the balut and pork blood dish. FYI: I'm skipping the next trip over there because I'm tired of this poor country.
Was just thinking about that common "shithole" reference recently. I've been in country for 8 years, but am just now really exploring Manila.Manila is absolutely shitty, sorry to hear you are wasting time on a big trip in that shithole.
