I'm going on a 2 day trip to Ireland for a meeting from work and decided to extend my stay for 4 more days by arriving earlier. My meeting is in Belfast but I decided to arrive through Dublin and then go North to Belfast.
  1. What places are worth visiting in Dublin and Belfast and their surroundings?
So far I've only planned on going to the Cliffs of Moher, but I'm not sure if it's worth the coast to coast drive (is it?), maybe go South to Limerick as well. I also want to do the Guinness brewery tour. Other than that, I'm not sure what else I should do or visit while I'm there.

2. I don't want to miss UFC 199 Rockhold-Weidman, so I'd appreciate it if you could list a couple of bars or places in Dublin that will show the fight, even if it's going to be late (around 2 am?)

3. What are some local dishes I should try? What's a good pub to hang out at? What places or people should I avoid?
Appreciate your help.

got quite shitfaced at Templebar a few years back on St Patty's day. It was insane

Have always wanted to go to Ireland. Please take a lot of photos and post 'em in here! Let's see what you got man

Guinness factory was awesome too, some cats were there just for the experience and didn't drink, so when everybody poured the 'perfect pint', there was mad leftovers to slam real quick...

good times

Avoid Temple Bar like the plague, there's a reason it's only filled with tourists and you'll find out why when you see the price of a pint.

Lol, I'll keep that in mind, thanks.
Any good pubs for locals you recommend?

If you have the time I suggest you go to the north antrim coast, giants causeway and so on. Beautiful part of the world.

As for Belfast, I mean if there's one thing we don't lack it's pubs and bars and one great thing about Belfast is that a lot of the places to go are very close to one another. Here's my favourite bars that I would recommend:

Kellys Cellars - great pub for a bit of craic and live traditional music, they do get a lot of tourists as well. One of the oldest pubs in Belfast, dating back to 1720.

Duke of York - Another good tourist spot but it's a nice bar generally, always very busy. A bit expensive but they do have a very good selection of whiskey. It's located in the cathedral quarter and there are a few bars round there.

The Crown - Can be bit touristy but it's definitely worth going to see because of the building itself. It's very ornate because it was originally a victorian gin palace.

The Empire - it's an old church hall that was turned into a pub in the 80s I think, but it's one of the best places for live music. I wouldn't go there for a quiet pint, but they have great shows (both free and paid). Especially if you like blues they have a local legend, Rab McCullough who plays on thursdays. So if you are here on a thursday I suggest you go, if you like blues that is. I am going there later in fact. Here's Rab covering some Hendrix:

Not an exhaustive list by any means, there are loads of other good ones like the John Hewitt, McHughs, Robinsons and so on but a few good ones, especially for tourists. One good thing as I say is that Belfast city centre largely follows a straight line with things off to the side of that, and you're not likely to be needing to go anywhere else, so for places to avoid there isn't anywhere you're likely to accidentally end up. For touristy things to do, I have been told the black taxi tours are very good and I always see people riding around on them open top buses, so you could do one of those. If you like museums you could visit the Ulster Museum (which is free) and have a look round Queens University and the botanic gardens which are beside it, that area is a nice part of Belfast (largely students).

As for dishes to eat, we don't have much in the way of special cuisine but I suppose it's hard to beat an ulster fry for your breakfast.

This is great, thanks!

Any tips on where to watch the fight?

No worries.

In Dublin, no idea I'm afraid. In Belfast no where stays open late enough as the fights aren't on until 3am and onwards, fairly sure it'd be the same down there.

Fuck. I figured, since they're on really late. I'll keep looking, thanks.

lol random old ass building, that's dublin castle. The one below is the four courts, under repair.

haha - random old ass building for us tourists.
thanks for the pics!

Well, definitely don't kiss the blarney stone while you are there. The fact that people wait in huge lines to kiss a wall covered in slobber (and probably some urine) is bizarre.

I lived there for a summer a few years ago.

Here are my recommendations:

1. Go to Trinity College. I loved it there. Great place to see. Check out the book place (Kells? can't remember the name but it was amazing). I lived at Trinity for a summer. Great times.

2. About a half mile from Trinity is a bar called "Bruxxels" or something close. You can google heavy metal bar in Dublin. It isn't far from Trinity. It has three sections. The upstairs is a regular Irish pub with fantastic Irish Wings. The basement splits into two bars. One is a heavy metal bar definitely worth a visit. The other side has changed from what I know but it was a rap bar basically...blasting rap music.

The live music at the heavy metal bar and DJ was a lead singer of a band I can't remember...Primal or something. They were a very metallica type band. he was only there on teh weekends but when he was there it was insane and totally worth it. Long haired viking metal dudes everywhere.

3. The Ghuul (sp?) its the prison from back in the day. Go there, get chills. I think its called, "Kilmainham Ghul" or something. The name is ominous enough but the place is something from a horror movie.

4. The Guinness place is nice but not a big deal. If you miss it you aren't missing much.
