Yes, Chimaev could've risked position more to go for a finish but he was constantly looking to improve it and either go for a crucifix, take Dricus' back or mount.

Goddard is the sole reason why Dricus got gifted the chance to land those couple strikes and even get a good position late in the 5th.

With proper refereeing, Dricus wouldn't have stood up even once.

Awful performance by an awful ref once again.

They were blatantly to favour DDP so that the commentary even had to mention it. But you know what, everyone was happy when they happened

He should have stood them up more often. That shit was bad.
He should have stood him up when Chima was in a dominant position? He was either in his back threatening a sub or in side mount positions landing punches (doesn't matter if they're weak)

I do UNDERSTAND he was trying to make that entertaining but no real reason to stand them up in theory

there must be a "Ref intervenes into the fight" line at draftkings or whereever, with someone named Godtard making there a bet

The standups were so random.

One round he lets Khamzat work for 5 minutes.

Another round he stands them up when Khamzat was in a significantly better position.

I mean we all know WHY. The crowd was bored.

But still, some consistency should be expected.

On one hand the ref is doing what fans want to see, on the other hand he could just let fighters deal with the repercussions of having boring ass fights from a pissed off company.

DDP’s fault for not being able to get to full guard. Refs are trained not to stand up fighters when they gain dominant position like side control, mount, back control etc
What good is a dominant position when you're very clearly only using it to exploit a flawed scoring system?

And nah. That shit was Khamzat's fault for doing as much as he could to avoid letting DDP move.

I know, I know. Y'all are gonna try to convince us it was awesome and a once in a lifetime performance. Khabib beating the piss out of Barboza and Trujillo wasn't half as exciting.

Nah, just explaining why the ref was reluctant to stand them up. They’re literally trained to only do standups from full guard.

He was almost never threatening.. He was on his back with some pipper patter knees..

Nobody will agree becasue Khamzat is the new shinny toy.. But he played it safe and boring and there should have been more standups earlier in the fight
