Media GLORY Heavyweight Antonio Plazibat on potential UFC move: “I think I’d be the top guy — everybody should just try to take me down”

HOW WOULD ANTONIO PLAZIBAT DO IN THE UFC?

He will do worse than his fellow countryman Rakic.

All participants receive their base purse for each individual fight, and on top of that they earn additional money the further they advance in the Grand Prix. The final payouts depend on how successful they are on February 7 during the finals. I’ve spoken to multiple fighters who are competing, and they’re all very happy with the potential payday, so I wouldn’t worry too much about that bro.

And yes, Rico was by far GLORY’s highest-paid fighter and made very good money throughout his career. I doubt money is the main reason for his UFC move, and I don’t expect him to earn significantly more there either. If it were purely about a one-time payday, a Saudi boxing fight would make far more sense. From what I understand, the UFC appeals to him mainly because of the international exposure, which helps him long-term, especially with things like his acting career. He’s clearly playing the long game.

You are certainly connected to that scene.

I have researched it a bit and the impression I have gotten is that overall kickboxing pay is pretty bad and EXTREMELY top heavy.

Prove me wrong.
Shit man... for the sake of these fighters I HOPE YOU DO

Similar to boxing (Top heavy) and in fact both sports use the same little game of bait and switch to defend their financial system.

"Oh yeah well so and so got paid ________"

And if you dig around a little it's like... OK so ONE GUY got a half way decent check in his 75th pro kickboxing fight and even then he had to win a tournament to get it.

And if you shine a light in the dark corners that no one from the boxing or kickboxing communities ever want to talk about you see guys fighting for $600.

Like I said before...

Show me a full card disclosed payout.
Not the one guy who won the tourney and the big check they take a picture of.

I already brought one receipt. I posted the date on it, that's the only disclosed payout I can find which I presume is because Glory doesn't come to Cali often and doesn't publish their purses which.... I have a pretty solid guess now as to why.

I think these guys SHOULD get paid decent.
I just don't think they do
And for sure I don't think they get paid decent on the regular without having to find specific circumstances.

Compare a regular ass Glory card to a Apex card and them Apex dudes gonna be getting paid like kings tit for tat

UFC HW some fat slob might grind out a decision wrestling him or he could KO everyone and become champ. However the division is so cursed, being a champ is going to be hard.

Lol at knocking out the ref

Big talk.

Dude should come get that easy money then.

HW division in the UFC is flaming hot garbage so it would make plenty of sense to sign a few of these dudes and let then sink or swim.
Nothing to lose really.

Glory pays shit. Tournament champs get less than the guys losing a UFC title fight and the runner up drops to relatiively.peanuts.

Here is a glory event payout from California in 2018 half the fighters had a base pay of less than $1000.

26 fighters on the card and the total payout including bonuses was less than $100k

Shit is an understatement. Simon Marcus was a former champion and Robin Van Roosmalen was the champion at that time and just look at their pay. Both guys were making less than UFC debutants. Marcus, for anyone that doesn't know, has had fights with both Izzy and Poatan.

Remains to be seen. The difference in striking quality between UFC and Glory isn't as big as people think it is.

I follow a ton of combat sports YT content and among them is a kickboxer named Gabriel Varga who won a bunch of kickboxing titles. (Including Glory, K1 and Bellator)

He did a "what I got paid as a pro kickboxer" YT video... and if I recall correctly he talks about fighting for 10k-20k as a champion ranked #1 in the world.

Granted he is a featherweight.... maybe the pay sucks a little less in the bigger weight classes, maybe it has gotten better in the 10 or so years since his prime, but it looks rough to me.

Especially if you look beyond the very tippy top of the iceberg

"professional" kickboxing is really more of a side gig for guys that work doors, bouncers, security, etc. It's not a real career.

(for the record: I put parenthesis around "professional" to emphasize how little money these guys make ie it is not a real career. I did not put parenthesis around "professional" in any way as an insult or disrespect to any of these guys)

Damn, never realized that he was that thick in the midsection. Should be some fun fights if he crosses over.

The guys that truly made any money in kickboxing where the K1 WGP champions, Rico, and Badr. The champions of the WGP would get $400K. Sounds great, until you realize it's after a 3 man 1 night tourney.

As for Rico and Badr, both had the benefit of riding off the legacy of the K1 HW division, with Badr already being a superstar and Rico having wins over Saki, Aerts, and Ghita. Every other Glory champ made peanuts as you illustrated. Imagine making 20K for a world title fight...ffs. It's no wonder that the talent pool in kickboxing is shallow.

Earlier this week, GLORY Heavyweight Antonio Plazibat was interviewed by MMA outlet HOME OF FIGHT.

The Croatian knockout artist believes he would be the top guy in today’s UFC Heavyweight division, saying opponents would just run and try to take him down.
Plazibat also thinks the likes of Tom Aspinall and Derrick Lewis wouldn’t stand a chance against him on the feet.

He added: “Never say never, we’ll see what happens in the future.”

Thoughts? Swipe for the video:

Some highlights of Antonio Plazibat.
As he always says, “Just throw stupid hard punches”:

He even KO’d referee Edward Strijkert in his last fight, lol:

They should sign him and do Rico vs Plazibat in UFC!

Even the bkfc women get a bag compared to the glory purses, holy shit.

That way we would still get the fight everyone has been asking for!

Neither are coming IMO.

Plazibats comments. Yeah of course they're just gonna shoot on you. Thankfully there aren't many dominant grapplers there but for the money they'll pay you you are not fighting Steven Asplund in your debut. You are fighting Blaydes. Even Lewis can execute a basic takedown into hell. Definitely can knock either out. Definitely can get mauled by either without basic ground game. Which he wont have.

Also. Wheres Rico? I knew it wasn't real man. Boxing would be way more preferable to him. Seemed like a very unbelievable rumour. Not on you of course man!

I’m a big Plazo fan, but I don’t think his style would translate particularly well to MMA. Because of how shallow the heavyweight division is, I’d probably place him somewhere in the top 5–10 range, but not higher.

Kickboxers like Plazo, similar to Saky, generally don’t adapt that well to MMA. The ones who do tend to fall into specific categories: one-shot specialists like Reem, Cro Cop, or Alex Pereira, or extremely elusive strikers like Izzy. Pure pressure-based kickboxing styles usually don’t carry over as effectively.

i get what you're saying, and i agree to a certain extent, but Doumbe has a volume style and while he's not fighting the best of the best, he does look great. and Cro Cop wasn't really a 1 shot specialist in K-1. he was more of a combination striker that hid his kick behind boxing combos. but yeah, he did develop a sniper style in MMA. i feel like the biggest thing the kickboxers need to understand is that their defense needs to be based on distance and not blocking. guys who rely on blocking too much aren't going to do well. Overeem relied on blocking also in K-1 but in MMA he knew he had to either be at kicking range, or all the way in on clinch range. he never really stayed in punching range in MMA and would also take his head off the centerline when making his entries.

plus so many guys at HW are going to play his game, it's hard for me to see him not making it to at least top 5.
