GI vs No GI Injury Chances?

I have not done a lot of gi work, just really getting into drilling in the gi with a friend just one on one since my club is no-gi MMA, but any time I have ever been at a gi school I always found it easier on my neck. In no-gi and MMA you have guys hanging rough on collar ties, snap downs, Thai clinch and so on always pulling on your neck. This can be safe if you train with safe guys, but I feel like in the gi when guys are working with collar grips instead my neck doesn't get as sore.

Maybe I'm totally off cuz I'm a noob, but just a personal observation.
