GGG vs Canelo = Robbery of the year candidate?

The stage for the unscrupulously manufactured rematch has been set and everybody bitching and moaning will tune in.

You may as well prepare yourself for a manufactured rubber match, too.

This time DeLaHoya will hit the ref with a steel chair. The title can't change hands on a DQ!!!!!

UFC fans should be the last people talking about manufactured. The whole organization and all its fights are about as manufactured as you can get.

Nah "giving them away" is a phrase dude. GGG did work in the middle rounds. It was a close fight. Not a robbery lol.

I will mention that Canelo has been criticized for exactly that in that in the past...and hanging out on the ropes for extended periods of time but we can just pretend that's not true...

GGG wore him down and grinded those rounds out. Even the rounds that GGG won were super close in some spots. There are only a couple round that GGG definitively won.

Dude... even the fucking announcer was talking about a trilogy during the fight.

THAT WAS THE FIRST FIGHT.

WHO THE FUCK STARTS TALKING TRILOGY THAT EARLY.

Boxing is corrupt as shit and you know it.

They are so desperate to sell right now that they need to book MMA fighters and preemptive trilogies in advance.

This was a much, much closer fight than people are giving credit. Canelo hurt GGG in the 6th and the 10th. Canelo hit him with big, clean shots throughout the fight but couldn't stop GGG from coming forward.

I completely agree. I really don't think most people actually score the fight as they go either. Nice to see an actual score. They just watch and come up with a random way they thought the fight played out as a whole.

I think Canelo has less adjustments to make it a rematch, too.

I've seen multiple people commend Canelo for his clean shots and here you are stating he hurt GGG but within the same sentence said he kept coming forward. Explain how GGG was hurt if he was able to continue walking Canelo down and pinning him in the corner?

The german commentator did. But the guy is a clueless dork and was probably just parroting the american broadcasting team.

I disagree emphatically, ggg was never hurt or stunned. He ate everything canelo threw at him and landed his shots, canelos weaving was impressive as Fock but he still wasn't able to dictate the fight and the few moments where he landed clean stuff ggg ate it and kept coming with his own barrage

Most people had a drawish score. The guys who saw it wide for Golovkin were mostly the people I would have predicted pre fight would have seen it wide for Golovkin.

I thought it was a draw and I'm a huge GGG fan (would easily fellate him for free and I ain't even gay)

GGG's best years are behind him (although I wouldn't call him a shot fighter just yet) -- his reflexes/speed/agility, they have all escaped him. The power and chin are still there though...

Does he beat Canelo in a rematch? I personally don't think so. If I were him I would cherry pick 3-4 easy fights and call it a day.

I saw Golovkin effected by punches multiple times, one body shot in particular hurt him pretty bad. Roy commented on it during the fight too.

you say it was literally all jabs, as if jabs don't count. since when do jabs not count? have i missed a memo?

canelo out landed him in power punches by a whopping 4 punches. 110 to 114 isn't much of a difference. 218 to 169 is.

people who say pressure and jabs and ring control don't matter, but countering powershots do, are acting like golovkin didn't land an almost identical number of power punches. yes, he missed a bunch of his shots. he also threw a lot more, and had a similar connect percentage. he won this fight any which way you slice it.

Not all power punches are the same

I am not even going to talk about the idiotic 118-110 scorecard, because I can't see how anyone would score this a draw or for Canelo. This is a competitive fight, but Canelo did not do enough for a win. He got overwhelmed by GGG and had to take nearly all middle rounds off.

Would love to see a scorecard round by round of anyone who does not have it for GGG. For me, this is a clear robbery. Stats show it. Media scorecards show it. Even most fans agree.

The scoring was atrocious...

I can see a case for Canelo taking the first three and the last three rounds, though.

That's not how I see it. I give him rounds 1-3 and round 12. But rounds 10 and 11 played out in a way that I think you could give them to Canelo, depending on what you're looking for. He landed some pretty decent shots there.

It's near impossible for me to see how anyone could get Canelo to a win... but I can see a path to get him to a draw.

I thought he hurt him in the either the 4th or 6th I can't remember which one it was, and in the 10th. He knocked him straight backwards with powershots a number of times and it didn't even phase GGG. Though GGG was doing more of the coming forward, Canelo was landing more clean punches, and harder punches. It was a tough fight to score either way. Canelo was trying to box too much when punching was clearly what was working for him.

By the 8th I thought GGG had him broken mentally and would finish him by the 10th. Canelo's best moments of the fight where when he was punching instead of trying to box him. Some of those middle rounds he came out at the beginning of the round, had success, pushed GGG back, then just wilted and I gave the round to GGG because Canelo was just absent the rest of it. Other rounds GGG just beat him up. Then the 8th round hit and Canelo just found a second wind or something. so Basically 10/10 Def would watch again.

I thought it was a great, close fight that I could see either guy getting the nod. Yeah a draw is a pretty shitty conclusion but I can't argue with it. Wide for either guy is just silly.

I think that even more after I actually rewatched this morning and my biggest take was that GGG offense was blocked, parried or slipped a lot more than I thought on first watch. Canelo has some pretty masterful defense at this point. Even watching the highlights of the fight that's apparent. GGG pressure, pace and chin are just crazy, though. He's like a robot lol.

I scored it live. Canelo 1,2,3,5,9,10,11,12
I tended to give Canelo the close rounds due to landing the better, cleaner shots.

Canelo's defense against the ropes was amazing. The only time GGG ever really got combinations off was when Canelo just lay against the ropes, and even then he didn't really get through. I don't think Canelo understood how long GGG could keep that up though, and once he let GGG inside he couldn't get reset to a distance he was comfortable at and just kept getting swarmed. GGG did really start to beat him up affectively in like 6 and 7 which were the only clear cut GGG rounds of the fight in my opinion. The entire rest of the fight is dependent on what you look for when scoring. The only controversy whatsoever in this fight that I can see is the 118-110. 115-113 GGG is a perfectly acceptable score. I had it 115-114 Canelo with the 3rd round even. Had I given that to GGG I'd have had it 114-114 as well, so there is zero controversy in the other two cards. A lot of fight fans don't really kniow what their looking at anymore.

People seem to lose track of that fact that to be impressed by GGG's ability to walk through bombs over the course of a fight that he has to be being hit by bombs in the first place, and those bombs count.
