Torn cartilage (on the ball) and fluid build up in a jacked up AC joint. Doc says he's got to remove a bit of bone to prevent future pain and then cut/stitch up the muscle surrounding the ball+socket to stabilize my shoulder. It'll be arthroscopic, so I was told the recovery time won't be bad at all. One week in a sling, then I can do normal activities but it'll take some physical therapy before I can return to kickboxing.

Any words of advice? Share some surgery experiences?

Had shoulder surgery earlier this year. Tore my labrum during wrestling.

It happened during practice when someone I was live wrestling caught my arm in a awkward position.

The shoulder dislocated and popped back in but it kept popping out during the season even during a match.

Decided to get a bankart repair done and had to be in a sling for a month and could do no contact training for 6 months. I really wanted to get back into wrestling quickly but I followed my rehab as instructed. The rehab was a huge bore but I knew it was important to get my shoulder healthy.

There is always a chance that the tendons will become really tight afterwords and you could become the next best pitcher in the major leagues.

There is a documentary of this happening, incredible story.

Never take the recovery time for arthroscopies literally. I had the miniscus in my knee repaired 3 years ago, and a '4 week' recovery (they give that to every arthroscopy, regardless of the surgeory or injury) turned into nearly 12 months. I did wear mine out a while between diagnosis and surgeory, though.

I'm currently in the middle of a 6 week break from training due to my left shoulder. I get chronic pain right in the ball joint area when I extend at certain angles. I also have to pull my jabs short because of the elbow joint. The pain is too bad to fully extend from repeated armbar hyper extensions.

Neither have shown any improvements 4 weeks in. I have that funny feeling that the diagnosis will be more surgeory.

Seriously, how the fuck do pro fighters do it? I'm only just at a level where I could compete confidently and all my joints are fucked. I'll end up retiring after my first or second fight.

Good luck with the recovery.

Same here. MCL/miniscus tear followed by a shoulder injury. Rehab is slow but for the 1st time in my life I've decided to fully rehab my injury before resuming training.

I guess pro fighters understand the damage they're sustaining by training & competing with injuries but personally it's not worth it when you have a career elsewhere & other responsibilities. Hope your recovery goes well.

good luck and i hope its not your dominant arm....

Wow, this is starting to feel like a support group! I had an acl/double meniscus tear and later the same year surgery for Torn rotator cuff in my left shoulder. The knee surgery/recovery was one of the toughest things I've had to do in my whole life, so the shoulder surgery really seemed like a breeze. I wore the sling for about a week and a half and really dealt with very little pain. The recovery is boring because if you've ever lifted weights you've pretty much done all of the exercises your physical therapist will make you do. The main thing is to take it slow even if you feel like you can do a lot. I was back on the mats after 3 months, and I felt pretty confident in my shoulder. Just tap early and often to any shoulder locks.

You hopefully have spent a fair amount of time finding a good ortho.

Now spend the proper time finding a good DPT. DO NOT slack and get a frozen shoulder.

At least it will make it easier for you to join the no fap brotherhood.

I dislocated my shoulder shoulder back in 05, went to rehab for a week. I don't think it healed up properly, but as long as i keep doing my shoulder exercises it feels good. I eventually want to get surgery on it to remove the scar tissue that's built over the years, but that's basically it.

Thanks bro

Hmmm, maybe I shall take you up on this offer. I've heard shoulder surgery isn't too bad, so I'm hoping to recover well and get dat motion back

Daaaamn, torn labrum is no joke man. That's a lot of time you're sitting on the sidelines, sorry you had to go through that.

LMAO, you got me there bro.

Ok, I will make sure to do my recovery time as needed. That's just what the doctor said is a typical case, but of course it'll be a day by day process.

Thanks man, it seems recovery seems to the biggest issue with a lot of people. I'm hoping I can follow through 100% and get my shoulder back to functionality.

Thanks bro.... it is....

Will do, thanks for the heads up. From what I know, I'll be doing PT twice a week for up to 6 weeks.

I'm not sure what's wrong with my shoulder...but I can barely lift it from the side up. I broke it years ago (3rd degree seperation), took a long time and then it got better, now it's hurting again.

And the weird thing is, if I lift with weights or bands, it alleviates the pain.

Did you ever get it checked out? My doctor did a test where I would stick my arms out to the side (like a human cross) and then he'd push down on them and have me fight back. My healthy shoulder could keep him from pushing my arm down no problem, but my injured shoulder went down without much of a fight.

My doc explained to me that it's caused by fluid build up in the AC joint (Joint where your collar bone meets your shoulder). That fluid causes a lot of pain and pressure build up, disallowing me to lift anything too heavy or to fight back his push. How did this fluid build up?

When you separate your shoulder, often time there's cartilage torn and that allows for fluid build up in the area. My doc pointed out that if you do a lot of overhead presses, shoulder presses or any kind of lifting directly above your head that would cause a lot of fluid to go into that AC joint area.

Hmmm thanks. I'll definitely ask my physiotherapist when I go see him next (I'm currently going for my hip as it's an old hockey injury) and I'm sure he won't mind checking out the shoulder as well.

Thing is, I haven't done any overhead presses in quite a while...although I guess I did 2 weeks ago while doing olympic lifts...but still

No problem, that's all I really know from my own personal injury. You could have a completely different case, either way I hope it works out for the best bro :icon_chee

Haha, welcome. Its amazing the things that pop into your head, first thing I thought of was Rookie of the Year, and I haven't seen that movie in over a decade.

But I should wish you the best though. I have been lucky to never have a major injury like that. But IF you do become a spectacular pitcher....Rangers, please consider playing for the Rangers. :)

Well brothers, yesterday I officially got my sling off and my shoulder's feeling a lot better. I have a fairly limited range of motion for the time being, but my physical therapy is slowly giving me my strength and range back.

Blitz, you have my word if I ever become a pitcher it'll be for the Rangers :icon_chee

Thank you all for the support!
