getting caught in striking?

What the shit are you talking about? You got the wrong fight in your head. Bisping was tagged a number of times before getting knocked the fuck out and was losing the fight.

Wasn't he?

I didn't think he was landing the big shots but just more shots.

Hmm maybe I need a rewatch.

Guys like KJ or anyone that has a more technical boxing style can defend well vs other boxer s like that and do well. Case in point KJ vs stout.......but those guys aren't that good at defending vs a more unorthodox and unpredictable striking style cause it's not what they are taught. Basically they just can't predict or see the punch that well

And most guys that have success landing big ko's like Bennett have power and more important speed.

You can get caught in BJJ too. Look at Jones-Vitor.

Well in grappling it's mostly improving position and finally tricking your opponent to a submission.
You could say that Vitor/Jones armbar was sort of a fluke, but there's a lot more chances for a fluke in striking.

"There are some things that can beat smartness and foresight? Awkwardness and stupidity can. The best swordsman in the world doesn't need to fear the second best swordsman in the world; no, the person for him to be afraid of is some ignorant antagonist who has never had a sword in his hand before; he doesn't do the thing he ought to do, and so the expert isn't prepared for him; he does the thing he ought not to do; and often it catches the expert out and ends him on the spot.

Because Noons and Riggs were bad boxers, that's why they have to be content making a lot less money fighting in the ufc.

Is striking not really the best style for outside situations due to lack of gloves and uneven surface? I keep hearing Joe Rogan say that grappling is the best for self-defence/street fighting since there is no risk of getting caught. Though Im not sure if he is being unbiased here or not...

Joe's right. I've personally went to grappling in street fights I
felt I could get hurt on the feet. I've left street fights with nothing more than
scrapes on my knees from the takedowns, had I stood with those guys I may
have been ko'd. And unlike most people think, even if friends are around
they almost always allow a fair fight and dont kick you in the head.
