Georges St-Pierre explains why a clash with UFC over PED testing pushed him away from MMA

IIRC he was unreachable by NSAC during the final days of the fiasco when they were trying to set up USADA testing for the Hendricks fight.

Except that is completely not true. His laywer said they would accept the extra commisison testing, as well as doing their own added testing, and to send the paperwork over for GSP to sign, but he himself the laywer would be out of town for ten days. By time the paperwork would reach GSP it would likely be a day or two. the email was just ebfore the weekend so those days are whatever, so in reality the paperwork would sit at the office for a couple of days until the laywer was back and GSP would sign them. he literally says in the email they agree and to send the paperwork to sign.

Somehow people take this as he didn't want to do testing because the laywer was out of twon for a few days after that.

As much as I love GSP, I think his fight against PED is suspect because I think he was clearly on something too.
He looked very jacked every single fight. And I mean jacked in the manner that doesn't pass the eye test.

Ah yes, the old tried and true eye test.

Yes believe it or not, the eye test is a clear indication, if you are mature and trained in athletics & weightlifting for some time & know about what is natural or not, you immediately see who is using or not. Most people who write the perpetual comments such as "this is achievable naturally" I am 100% sure either never trained actual sports seriously, or are in the teenage or early 20s age bracket without maturity about bodybuilding & sports.

Once you reach 30+ and have trained for 10+ years like most of us talking like this, you see who's on steroids and who's not. Olympics are another example of juice all over the place. Where it gets tricky is pure endurance sports where the doping is not about anabolics or HGH but rather increasing endurance in ways that do not affect the body outwardly (ie: Cycling).

He's no longer with us.

In loving memory of TheSpider (2019-2021)

Oh damn I didn’t know he got canned. Unfortunate.

Do me a favour then, can you name a list of fighters on the juice that didn't pass your eye test? I'm not as sure the eye test is as accurate as you think but maybe you just know more than me. Say pick LW, who is dirty and who is not? Also, Josh Barnett and Tim Sylvia pass your eye test?

I might add that the eye test only works on people taking things that affect testosterone levels such as anabolic steroids. There's an entire range of fighters taking more niche drugs that you'd find among Olympian endurance athletes. Yoel Romero is an example of absurd levels of anabolic steroids. But then you have fighters where the eye test is totally irrelevant, like TJ Dillashaw & others, who took drugs meant to increase endurance levels.

In GSP era, it was more about taking stuff like testosterone enhancers, but in modern era, it's about increasing endurance and the smart people usually avoid the anabolics (unless they live in third world country and can easily cycle like Yoel Romero among others). So I agree that the eye test is not everything.

GSP wasn't even that jacked. I know people that look like bodybuilders and they are not, they barely even work the gym. They pump a bit their muscles and look like they are on the juice because of bodyshape and because thats just their genetics. Especially if they eat healthy.

A different story is when you see drastic changes on someone that are suspicious but I dont thnk that's GSP's case.

Anderson Silva - 10 title defenses, 500 finishes

GSP - 9 title defenses, 0 finishes

Anderson Silva - failed for PEDS twice... post USADA record 1-5 (and was gifted the Brunson win)

GSP - no drug test failures during USADA 1-0 record

You could also say that Kamaru Usman has 9 decision wins in the UFC. Decision wins aren't the exclusive domain of GSP

Possibly, but why’d he avoid usada vs condit? And what was with the inquisition when Hendricks tried to get extra testing?

Haha so now it was Hendricks who was tryign to do extra testing?

Guess what though, GSP did the extra NSAC testing as well as his own extra testing, Hendricks did not.
