Of course we'll pretend the Germans did what they did just to be mean. Just like the Spanish Inquisition when the jews helped the moslems oppress Spain for 700 years and were called out on it once the Spaniards regained power. Not all jews of course, but enough that actions were taken.
Basically Hitler was angry at the George Soroses of his time. The Romans and the Spaniards weren't too impressed with them either, among many others.
