Genius or Criminal (Walmart Scam)

I bet a bunch of y'all who condone this have swapped price tags at some point.

If you're old enough to remember price tags . . . :)

There is another employment scam that has been doing the rounds since the early
80's. If you go to http://thedevilcorp.wordpress.com/ you will find an overview and links to news reports, government rulings, lawsuits and video footage showing how these people do business. Be very aware.:icon_evil

The story posted by the OP is clearly fraud.

I have absolutely no sympathy whatsoever for Walmart though. Their price match policy was completely illogical and unevenly applied. This is how fucked up it was a few years ago:

Right around when Call of Duty: MW3 came out, my first PS3 died. I looked around online for the best price for a new PS3, and Walmart.com was offering a deal on a 500gb PS3 CoD:MW3 bundle for $399, which everyone else was selling for $449. I popped into my local Walmart, but the price in store for the bundle was $449. I told the salesperson about the online price and pulled it up for proof on my iphone. She said "ok no problem, I just need my manager's approval before I can ring it up". So the electronics manager comes along, and refuses to price match it on the grounds that Walmart does not match online prices. I countered with "but it's your own website", to wh7ich she replied, with a completely straight face, "Walmart.com is not affiliated with Walmart stores".

I literally laughed out loud, pulled out my iphone again and used the "buy item now and pick up in store option" (the sheer existence of that option would indicate an affiliation between the two), told the electronics manager what I was doing and showed her the proof. At which point she refused to honour it and cancelled my fucking order! I asked to speak to the store manager, sure that he would see the sheer lunacy of the situation - but he sided with the electronics manager!

In disbelief, I asked the manager for the complaints number of their head office, which he gave me. I called them from in the store, in front of the store manager, outlined what had happened, certain that they would tell the store manager to honour the sale - instead I got a reply that price matches were ultimately left to the discretion of the store manager! They invited me to submit a written account of the incident so they could fully review it, however. I gave up and went across the street to Future Shop, where they price matched Walmart's online $399 price with no problems whatsoever.

I was so pissed at Walmart over their inane reasoning I ended up submitting a written account like the complaints lady suggested. I got a reply around six weeks later that said while they sympathized with me, Walmart stores were not obliged to price match online prices. They also stood by the managers' assertions that Walmart.com and Walmart brick & mortar stores were separate entities (I understand this from a corporate organization perspective, but from a customer's point of view its fucking dumb). I haven't shopped at Walmart since, just on the principle of the matter. Fuck you, Walmart.

edit - just thought of another Walmart story; this one is about their return policy instead of their price match policy though. One of my coworkers is married to a guy who's just a complete skidmark. They're high school sweethearts who got married young; she went on to a graduate degree and pulls in nearly $100k a year in salary. Her husband, on the other hand, barely made it out of high school and is habitually unemployed. He proudly tells people that one of his pastimes / money making ventures is to exploit the shit out of Walmart's return policy. He visits garage sales and flea markets to buy used items that are still in their original box - things like work boots, tents, blenders, etc. He looks the item up online to make sure that it's something Walmart stocks, then exploits Walmart's no-receipt return policy. He just tells them he bought the items within the last 90 days, paid cash but lost his receipt. Their no-receipt return policy is to issue gift cards or offer exchanges for a brand new item, even for returns with significant and visible wear (he once returned a 2 year old pair of workboots that he'd worn the soles out on and they gave him a brand new pair). Real classy guy...

This reminds me of a problem I had with best buy once. I wanted to buy a sharp led TV. Sharp sent out an email coupon for 400 off a specific model and it said to be honored at all authorized sharp retailers.

So I go to best buy and present the coupon and they wouldn't accept it. The manager said
I can't accept this I don't know if its real. So I bring up the coupon on. Both my email and sharps site and he. Still denies.
So. While in the store I call corporate/ customer service and tell them about the situation. They said the coupon should absolutely be honored and best buy is aware of the promotion. I say great tell the manager here please. He gets on the phone with the manager and tells him the say thing. I have a sheeeit eating grin as he hangs up the phone. So I ask if he said the coupon is honored at BB. He says yes. I say okay I would like to buy it. He says "its still my discretion I say no". I got the feeling this was the type of guy that couldn't accept being wrong. I really wanted to yell and fight him but I held back my inner caveman and walked out

I have no sympathy for Walmart.

But lying is lying, cheating is cheating, and stealing is stealing.

Side note though. Years ago I bought a Playstation 1. It was hooked up at my house and some friends were over. The box was still by the TV. One of the guys I didnt know THAT well. He offered me 20$ for the box. He said he had a broken playstation and he could put it in that box and swap it.

I sold him the box and he actually did walk right into the walmart and swap a broken ass year old playstation for a brand new one.

I also was behind a lady at customer service one day who had a huge reciept. She just started checking things off and told the girl, "these things werent in my bags when I got home" The girl actually refunded her money. It was groceries and shit so only 18$ but still!

Walmarts version of customer service has really killed a lot of the mom and pop and smaller stores. Not just because of prices but people these days just expect everyone to replace, exchange, or refund EVERYTHING!And if you don't do what they ask then that is "bad customer service" They don't care about you being nice, or knowledgeable, or ethical. They just want you to do what they ask without question.

Brilliant! I'm just pissed I wasn't able to capitalize.

Walmart is a big evil multi-billion dollar corporation. So really, who cares?

Not my proudest moment but when i was in university me and my roomates bought a Foosball table, we assembled it and then had the bright idea to keep the goalie rod and a few other parts and say they didnt come in the box. We took it back to Sams Club and got our money back. 2 days later we sent another roomate back to go buy it "as is".

the table was 560 originally and we ended up paying just 130.

So when you went back to the store did you specifically ask for a table with no goalie rod?

the amazon pages aren't real even for a moment, then i'd say its probably criminal.

if not, then it is what it is.

People were getting the Wii U and 3DS for 60 bucks because of a miss listing from SEARS a few weeks back. I'm really bummed I didn't get in on that.

No, back then Sams club had a section of "as is" items. Things that were returned that may of been defective. A chip in the paint on this, a dent on that, that kind of stuff. We knew the returned table would end up in this section because we claimed it as defective due to missing pieces and we knew the price would be marked down.

So when we went back, there it was.
