General Gaming Discussion, v3

Your party will grow.

What I really didn't like about ME3 were how the little side missions were handed out. You walk around overhearing conversations, and all of a sudden you have three or four side missions in your journal. It felt really cheap, like they wanted to have all these side missions fleshed out with dialogue and cutscenes, but cut them to get the game out on time.

Too many aren't even missions. You just spam the scan button and hope you unlock a planet to probe before the reapers descend on you. Really uninspiring. Scaling vertical cliffs in the Mako was far more fun. Well, at least until you got impaled by a Thresher Maw.

Finally picked Mass Effect 3 up (used, of course). Sucks only having four squad members to choose from. ME2 went OTT, with several ending up as characters you only took out once, for their loyalty mission, but this is the other extreme. I haven't even got a Krogan :icon_sad:

You playing with DLC bro?

All the ME3 DLC was mega. I know you hate buying from EA but it's essential in this case

Not yet; I only just got it. I'm tempted to, but only if it goes on sale. If it's anything like ME2, it'll go on sale on XBL every few weeks :D

Picked up Alien Isolation new for $15. Huge fan of the series, heard nothing but mixed things. Hopefully I get some enjoyment out of it.

DLC is a bunch of crap. I wait awhile to pickup games, never pay more than $15, and most of the time the DLC is more expensive than the game.

I'd agree but ME3 is a rare exception. I thought all the storyline DLC showed care and effort and really bettered the game.

From Ashes really should have been in the main game, given it's a fucking Prothean. Fucking money-grubbers. Gonna pick up the rest over the next few weeks. I've got multiple characters to import, so I'm in no hurry.

I can avoid the MP too by building readiness up on the Bioware site. The only MP I play is in MMOs, and I'm playing none of them at present.

"Readiness". Good idea, it's just too bad it's completely irrelevent to the end game. The MP is surprisingly fun though. I'm no MP gamer, but I had fun with ME3's. It's just Horde mode, but it works pretty good.

And yeah, "From Ashes" was so clearly cut from the main game to grease gamers for more dough. It's a pretty vital mission. That was pure EA shenanigans.

It's certainly irrelevant now the extended cut greatly reduces the assets needed. There's an achievement for having 100% readiness, so I wants it. I can't stand wave shooters, so there's no way I'm playing it.

I just started playing ME3 (beat ME2 last Sunday) and I can't believe how much I've forgotten. When I was in the middle of ME2 I tried to think about what happened in ME3 and I literally couldn't remember anything. So now playing ME3 seems like a whole new experience to me. It's been amazing so far. One of the things I hated about ME2 is that Biotics were usless. In ME1 Biotics were overpowered but in ME2 they became useless and ME3 seems to have balanced it out perfectly.

It's been great playing ME3 again though because I just remember almost nothing. I'm sort of starting to remember some stuff with the illusive man but not much.

Yea I googled the essential DLC And From Ashes and Leviathan seemed to be the main ones everyone said were necessary. Leviathan apparently details the creation of repears so I'm excited to do that one cause I missed it the first time around. It ended up costing me $20 Over 3x what I paid for ME3.

Citadel is awesome as well and a much better sendoff for the cast than dat ending

I thought about getting Citadel as well but I'm not so sure. I heard some people saying it was a bit to silly for them. I kind of don't want that cause I like the serious tone of ME3. When Shephard has that dream of the kid dying my GF happened to watch the whole thing and she was like is this a movie or a game? She wanted to know more about what was going on and everything. So I don't want something silly thrown in that's going to ruin the atmosphere.

Unless there's a sale, it'll cost me around

It's basically just about interacting with your squad. It's not a titanic piece of the ME universe, but some welcome fan service. It a bit silly though tbf

I liked the slightly OP biotics in the first game, but I can understand the point in switching the cooldown to all powers rather than just the one you'd used; overuse of biotics is meant to seriously exhaust you. I don't like that weapons now weigh you down, fucking your biotics up though. Mind, that's not as silly as changing the entire galaxy's weaponry in the space of the two years between ME and ME2.

I think the Prothean's now ready to take on missions, so I'm looking forward to him dismissing everyone with casual racism :D

Yep I'm not going to lie I liked the OP biotics as well in the first one. I remember running through the last mission and just throwing/pulling everyone in my way. I was a pure biotic, with liara, and Wrex.

I'm in the middle of the prothean mission right now. I don't remember his subtle racism so this should be fun. Really I'm just ready to get the Jersey Shore off my team. No idea what Bioware was thinking when they created that character. It's like Bioware made the game and then when they were done EA said "Lets remove that prothean character and make him DLC" then Bioware was left coming up with some sort of place holder character at the last second.

I don't mind James as much as I thought I would, although I'm a little annoyed he replaces the Normandy's resident Krogan. I've long disliked Freddie Prinze Jr for no real reason at all, but he does a decent job here, as well as in his guest appearances in Bones. The Chobot hooha was OTT too, given she's only playing a reporter. One with a fantastic pixillated ass.

Edit - I made sure to tell Kelly to change her identity too. Not having her getting Cyclopsed like she did in my first play.

I found him pointless. If you're a player who just has to talk to everybody in between missions, he's the most annoying because he never has anything interesting to say, and you can never tell when his dialogue will open up, or he'll just say "Hey Chief.". I'll work my way up the ship, finishing up everyone's dialogue trees and then have him left over at the top of the ship. Every single time, I'm thinking "Ah' fuck, James is still left. Do I really want to sit through another loading screen to see what Bro-Dude has to say?"

Stupid James.
