what's the germination time frame? first one to something you can eat wins.
Keep doing Lettuce. All you need is a leaf to eat.
Or radish like that guy said. All you need is a leaf to eat. They'll grow 2 little heart shaped leaves first. You'll see those alot in microgreens.

Going to try watermelon again this year. Tried and failed miserably in the past. Aside from that just the usual. Tomatoes, peppers, squash, and potatoes.

Carrots, onions, potato’s and tomato’s for sure. Not sure what else as I’m really struggling to get motivated for it this year for some reason. Hope this thread inspires me

Question to the green thumbs here. When would be the best time to plant a young shade tree in the spring? I live in northern illinois. Hoping to watch a pair of them grow over the years and eventually give my backyard some shade in afternoon and in the evening, block the setting sun from my deck (gets in my eyes when I grill. 1st world problem)

I’m looking at ordering these due to how cost effective vs a nursery tree. Last I looked those were over $500 each for what I could find near me.

Got a starter kit and seed packets from Lowe's. Did an initial watering and they expanded. The instructions say peel back the tops, insert seeds, cover with a bit of soil, lightly water, put a bubble top over it all, place in indoor sunlight and watch them sprout.

Wish me luck shermofos!

Waiting for the plants to grow in the starter kit. The photos on the instructions look a lot better than how mine actually looks. Ha!

My wife gardens. We have a big garden. Couldn’t tell you what we grow. Only role I have is to dig holes when she asks me.

Any of you guys use promix bx for veggie seedlings? Thinking about doing a 50/50 coco/peat mix. Only thing is the coco has been amended with my down to earth soil mix i use for cannabis. You think they’ll burn?

I messed around and let the squash get too big for my butthole

Is that a golden or early prolific straight neck?

I was always more of a kohlrabi kind of guy.

One aspect about zucchini, cucumber, and watermelon is that you may see a snake or two. I have noticed, more so than other plants, that there are several types of bugs that will either eat the roots or leaves of these plants throughout the entirety of the grow season.

i couldnt tell you the specific kind, friend. First year gardening and i just picked up a pack of seeds that said ‘squash’ somewhere on it.

Funny you mention bugs. My garden is littered with thousands of assassin bugs, think i saw maybe 5 in my 40 years before i started a garden.

I just harvested all of my blueberries. The avocados should be ready in September. The apples have just started growing.

I had zero Pluots pollinate this year.

I have a few pomegranates holding on. Not sure if they will, the tree is still young.

Otherwise the sweet peppers are coming in nicely finally. Those 40 degree nights really fucked them over for a while. I even had to replant the bell peppers recently.

My cucumbers, spinach and kale are doing well. I add them into stir fries. Cleared out vegetation surrounding a rose bush and they bloomed again. Got a couple of solar lanterns and a hummingbird feeder. Lots of time hanging on the porch getting advice from someone who suggested some cool stuff like a cactus tree and some yucca plants.
