Both are 6’3-6’4 245-260 lb athletic freaks with speed and power. If born and raised in the UFC both would be in the NFL as Pass rushers or TEs. Its not a coincidence the two best athletes in the HW division were raised outside of the USA and we should all be thankful they are fighting in MMA for a living instead of putting on pads and helmets.

Also before you post GIFs of Greg Hardy and Mitrione remember they were late career cross overs (and Mitrione Still KOd the HW goat). Not all NFL athletes would be good fighters but many would be and the HW division sucks because of it.

is it even that hard to be in the NFL ?
i mean statistically speaking

Currently 1696 NFL player's. Statistically difficult but gifted athletes like Ngannou and Gane who have height, weight, power, and speed would have a high probability of being NFL level players.

Both of Jon Jones brothers are in the NFL which would be a unparalleled coincidence if there wasn’t a significant genetic component

Gane has been an exceptional athlete all his life.

He was apparently good enough to be scouted for professional soccer and basketball while still in high school. He’s talked about legit paths he had offered to him to go pro in either sport, but ultimately didn’t because he thought he was too young to leave his family (or something along those lines). I believe his dad was a European pro basketball player as well (edit: this is wrong; he said his dad played soccer but not clear whether it was at a pro level or not).

Most everything I watch on Youtube is at 2x speed so I don’t remember all the fine details, but it’s all in here:

statistically speaking it is very difficult.

https://leagueside.com/chances-of-going-pro/

Let’s focus on football. There are 1,093,234 high school football players in the United States, and 6.5% of those high school players (or 71,060) will play in college. The drop off from college to the pros is even more dramatic: only 1.2% college-level players will get drafted to the NFL. Even then, being a successful professional athlete is yet another hurdle to tackle. In short, roughly 853 players (0.00075%) make the pros each year out of an original population of nearly 1.1 million high school athletes. To put that number into perspective, that’s about the odds of getting struck by lightning at some point in your life.

I agree

Tight Ends and Defensive ends would translate the best to HW MMA

They are always 6"4 to 6"7, with long reaches like 84 inches or 86 inch wingspan, and weigh 270lbs to 290lbs and are fairly muscular

Like Gronkowski 6"6 &1/2, 270lbs, 85/86 reach, and JJ Watt 6"5 &1/2, 84 wingspan 290lbs

A lot of Wide receivers would be great LHW like Dez Bryant (6"2, 225lbs, explosive, fast, 78 inch wingspan ,

Or

Treadwell on a bulk he is 6"3, 220lbs, and 81 inch reach

I like how it's just assumed that because of their physical attributes, they can just be in the NFL.

Bork had all the stats too but was cut due to lack of actual football knowledge. You still need to understand the game to be a good football player.

TS didn’t say they could walk on to a football team without knowing the game……

Oh so we are just going to assume they wanted to become football players and did all the necessary learning too.

Well that's kinda silly. lol

do they have a better shot than you or i? sure but just because a person has elite power doesn't automatically qualify you as a shoe-in for any pro sport lol

anyone saying it is easy with size and athleticism just doesn't understand the game.

pro football is on another level. size and athleticism are certainly part of it, but damn near everyone in D1 NCAA checks those boxes for their positions. But, only a fraction get the chance.

talking hundreds of colleges out there, roster sizes are huge, all filtering into what, 32 teams total... it takes so much more than size and athleticism.

From what I am reading so far, it does, per Sherdoggers lol

I know this but people who have clearly never competed in sports in their lives seem to think otherwise. It's hilarious what I am reading for responses so far.

His dad was a soccer player ,and Gane played soccer since he was able to walk.
But yes he got pro soccer offers when he was 13-14 but said he was too young ,didn't want to leave his family and became a pro too young. Same with basketball in his highschool ,for him basketball was just a hobby and didn't want to become pro and become an adult too soon.

Yup and sat on the bench for half a million a year. Not bad.

You hit and miss imo. Obviously a lot of talent gets sucked away by more lucrative sports. But there are also lots of fighters (from whichever countries) who love fighting. It's not sum-zero, and every fighter is somewhere on the grey spectrum of "I love the sport" and "I just want money". Very few are on either extreme (if you "just want the money" . . . there are hundreds of easier, more likely, and more lucrative career paths).

Edit: not to mention the sheer amount of mental fortitude you need to pursue a career in combat sports. NOT every other would-be athlete is mentally capable of that grind.
