Television Game of Thrones S08E06 Discussion Thread: Burn them all! (the writing staff) | Our Watch has ended

Pretty sure the white walkers weren't active the whole time. They became active which is one reason Mance was able to get the wildlings to come together.

The Nights Watch would have known about the white walkers had they been active this whole time. The rangers would have encountered them multiple times.

Through dialogue it's implied that they've been active for a while, but were sleeping at some point previous - recently enough that the Wildlings noticed a difference and banded with Mance but long enough that Craster's been sacraficing his sons for a long time. I don't think we're given any indication as to how long its been beyond that

Also, in the books at least, its easily to imagine that they were always awake and just deeper north because the Lands of Always Winter are unexplored territory

Also, its hard to imagine that the comet signaled them to start moving, because the Red Comet occurs after Drago dies, later in the TV show - and the White Walkers are obviously close enough to the wall to be encountered by Rangers by the first chapter/episode

“Nobody has ever tried Dragon fire on the night king”

I guess he’s been around and Imprisoned before the rise of dragons or he has not been around a for a long time

They weren’t asleep or anything. They were just a pretty much unknown threat by anyone except the wildings. It’s never explicitly said but if I’m not mistaken the red comet is pretty much accepted as a sign of dragons returning. Then the walkers knew once one got big enough they could use it to pass the wall. But until then they could pretty much only walk around, take babies and look menacing.

Dany going north is literally exactly what allowed them to invade. Like, that’s 100% precisely what happened.

Yeah, it’s never easy explicitly said what the watch knows. Or even if the walkers actually were in some kind of hibernation. I remember Benjen telling Tyrion about how after all his rangings it wasn’t wildlings or dire wolves that scared him. I thought the inference was that he’d at least encountered something supernatural.

I mean that's all true though.
“I watched Game of Thrones since 2011..for fucking nothing”

I’d be embarrassed to know that person.

Well every plot thread has a nonsensical and disappointing payoff. Not everyone is about the journey, some are about the destination.

I'm still glad I watched it because seasons 1 through 4 are so good, but on a rewatch I'll always know all the great characters and storylines are heading for a shitty conclusion.

Unsure if this has been posted but this is comical and accurate. It's trending highly on youtube so I am sure many have seen it.

This is incredibly accurate. Would love to see the people defending S8 refute those points.

Saying you got hundreds of hours of entrainment out of something and it meant nothing because you didn’t like the final 10 hours is about the most :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:y response I can imagine.

I hope whoever wrote that stubs his toe.

Yeah but the entire time it's building and building to something, and then every single plot thread built up for nearly a decade goes nowhere.

Some of them did, some of them didn’t. We got a decisive ending to it whether you enjoyed it or not. I could agree with everything he said until that final point.

Again, acting like it nullifies hundreds of hours of some of the best tv in existence is like a spoiled child throwing a tantrum in the toy store because he doesn’t get the last action figure to complete his Jurassic Park play set at home.

“I hate this house! I’m running away!”

Fuck off, brat. I’ll enjoy rewatching that stellar show for years to come. Just might skip some episodes and a season or two.

Even though the end was incredibly disappointing, this show was incredible. We knew going in that Martin hadn't and would likely never finish the series.

This season didn't make me love the rest any less.

IDK, I feel @Mike a little bit. I tried to put on Season 1 today just for background noise and as soon as I saw Dany I was like, "omfg, they're gonna totally ruin her character," hahaha. I couldn't help it.

I want a show staring Moses Targaryen, slave liberator and father of laws. He should go mad at the end and kill all the Egyptians with water

Wait

I been drinking

Go raptors

They literally just insert everyone into their ending with no logic or actual storytelling to get them there.

I'm going to rewatch the series at some point. Probably when its released on 4K BluRay as a boxed set.

Seasons 1-6 was the actual show, and Seasons 7&8 were fanfiction with some good ideas.

I'd love to read a ASOIAF/GoT fan summary of what the show should have been is we had received full ten episodes for Seasons 7-10, which the show fucking deserved.

Thats such bullshit. Theon has one of the best character arcs Ive ever seen on television. Jorah was boss as fuck and went out like a champ.

Look. I get that its a disappointing ending. But you're just trying as hard as you can to have problems with it. "Every plot thread". Just stop.

Yeah, that pretty much sums it up.
