Gaethje's BJJ? Non-existent

Justin has mentioned as much (that he is badd off bottom).... He compensates for it with his striking and wrestle brawl style.

He isn't as well rounded as his sherdog hype suggested.
Well, he got subbed while being on top.

Well, Gaethje himself has told everyone that he sucks from his back so it should not be a surprise. Maybe we downplayed that comment a little, but I guess he was brutally honest lol.

Flawless performance by Khabib, but Gathje's grappling caught my attention. Dude looked like an amateur on the ground. Now, listen, I know Khabib is the best grappler in the division (maybe in the whole roster!) but I was at least expecting Justin to show some knowledge there.

Gaethje made McGregor's defensive grappling/BJJ look black belt level.

We all know Khabib is an elite grappler, but of all his opponents, Justin might have looked the worst on the ground. And that was after everyone was promising that Justin's TDD would give Khabib trouble.

This fight was a joke. Justin belongs in brawls not technical fights where the ground is involved

It's almost like Justin said several times that he never trains off his back and wrestling makes him tired.

Absolutely agreed. Never thought he would even make McGregor's ground game look elite!

We kind of knew that, Justin was banking on his defensive wrestling and his TD to do the job.

BJJ was always the huge difference here, unfortunately us gaethje fans worst fears were proven true in that Gaethje's BJJ is very, very poor. That said, I'm a khabib fan, too, so I'm happy either way. Glad to see Khabib go out on top.

hurrrr "b-but wrestling is the best base for MMA" - the average sherdogger

Wrestling without BJJ is worthless. BJJ is the most important skill of an MMA fighter because unless you know it you can't defend it.

If mastered, no can defend.

I was saying this over and over here for weeks. Justin's lack of grappling/BJJ will cost him in there against Khabib.

Khabib's grappling is on another level, more so than his wrestling even, and there's no way you're going to beat him without a submission game.

Out of the guys with the wrestling backgrounds and Jiu Jitsu black belts how is it that Conor has managed to do the best against Khabib in recent fights?

I don't understand how the most credentialed wrestler Khabib has fought was the most passive. He rolled over and quit.

He has been relying on his TDD to keep him out of trouble on the ground, his grappling is not very good to say the least (lol), that, plus the mastery of Khabib spelled disaster for Justin, completely outclassed on the ground.
He was super gassed anyway, Khabib put on an insane pace. Luckily for Justin they were fighting in the octagon and not in a dark Dagestani alleyway.

This was proven 25 years ago but people still argue it lol
