Media Gaethje vs Barboza pre-fight stats

We should have sig bets whether Justin will shoot for a takedown for not
I would pretty much bet he will. He might try to stand with Barboza in the beggining, but he will eventually try to take him down. He and his trainers are not stupid and have seen that wrestling might be the best bet when in the cage with a striker like Edson.

I would applaud him if he did. As exciting as he is it wouldn't hurt to mix in a few TD's and fight smart once and awhile.

If he wants to have type of longevity that is.
I think he mentioned he has 2-3 fights left? I hope he wins so we get to see him in a money fight.

Yes. I think he's grown substantially since, say, his Michael Johnson fight.

The interesting thing with Gaethje is that everyone agrees he has great grappling defense - uses his great grappling base so that no one can take him down - but we haven't seen him use grappling offense. And of course Barboza won't be going for a takedown.

There is footage of him in his early career slamming the shit out of mo-foz, so he certainly can use his wrestling pedigree if he chooses. Unfortunately (for his grey matter) he most often shuns it in favor of standing and trading.

If he utilized his wrestling more, he could certainly prolong his career and add a dynamic that might make him champion.

I agree with all that.

I'm curious if he'll go for takedowns in this fight. If there was ever a time to do so, eh?

Part of that chess match I said I look forward to ;)

I love JG, I like Barboza and I LOVE this fight. That said, I wish JG would use his wrestling so he can make a title run.

Didnt Gatheje get leg kicked to death by freaking Alvarez? not a good look going into the fight

Barboza has been hurt multiple times by guys while standing I really don't see why Gaethje can't do it too. I do think Edson is the better striker and carries his power better in later rounds but I do think Justin is gritty enough to get walk through Barboza in the first couple of rounds to get the KO if not he's screwed.

shit, i deleted my comment...
"IMO Barboza will have an hard time, he will suffer Gaethje's constant pressure and this could be the real key factor in the fight."

I sure hope it is a ling drawn out battle and not a quick finish for either guy.

This has violent bloodbath written all over it from the word go. Two of the most ferocious strikers in any of the divisions. What fantastic match-making for we the fans...

I got a yellow card again and it’s basically your fault. Thanks a lot.

Really pumped for this one, pulling for Justin , I think he gets the job done, but not without some difficulty and pain...

Really hope gaethje wins and then they match him up with ferguson.

I think he will shoot early, realize its not as easy as Khabib and Lee made it look, and then go back to his bread and butter.

Justin x Edson is a hell of a match up...!

Absolutley pumped for this one!

As i said in other threads...Justins high-guard is tailor made for Edson and his kicks...

Not picking a winner...just wanna see a war...

Barboza will piece him up with better kicks and actual boxing, bloody and brutal ending. Who's chin will fail first?

LOL I'm gonna go full anti-analytics here and say that stats don't matter one bit. Both these guys pass the "eye test" and it's gonna be bloody and beautiful. I'm going to see Patton Oswald do standup that night tho, so I need to avoid my cell phone and make my gf load up the fight when I get home so I don't get any spoilers.
