Gaethje should move to dagestan for a few months

I Wonder If Dagestan is gonna be thought of the same way in 10 years Like Greg Jacksons is now, the "He should Just Go there for a few months to improve" is already similar.
No.

Its too remote.

What's this weird obsession with sending every non-wrestler to Dagestan?

The guys coming of Dagestan are soldiers off a conveyor belt, built for war, generally pretty emotionless, they've been training to fight since they were kids, that they are so good is based on a life spent growing up in a war torn part of the world that's still presided over by a warlord, you think they can easily teach a guy how to read the subtleties they spent a lifetime mastering?

Timing, anticipating the movement of their opponents, not flinching or panicking or fighting with a lot of emotion, someone like Gaethje can go there and learn all that?

FFS, just go to a good wrestler locally, this awe and fanboy nonsense is getting irritating.

It takes a lot of horror and oppression to make a machine, hate to tell you that. Not just a few months if wrestling coaching.
lol is that siver on the juice

Eh yes and no. Would be sick if he travelled to Dagestan to grapple. But Khabib just makes people look bad on the ground. Look at what he did to most people’s current #1 LW. Dustin was absolutely rattled in between rounds.
Khabib is retired,so he doesnt need to worry about him.

yeah, they're so great the only Dagestani champ there ever was is Khabib...

what do you mean? people think Greg Jackson's sucks now and their style of point fighting striking is old and only works if you have a ridiculously long fighter like Jon Jones using it while also relying on illegal eye pokes.

Exactly. I think people overestimate Dagestan Talent. Will they make it to that simlar to the olympics where they take Gold? Maybe

But there's only a few top talent coming out of there. Khabib, maybe Islam, Askar for lightweights maybe, that's not even a given seeing how him and moreno was a draw. Zabit, and Magomedov

That's really the only ones I can think of on the top of my head. Right now that would be title contenders right now. Abubakar(manap) is not a contender, Zubaira, chechen who trains with Khabib is not elite talent. I think people overestimate the camps. Are they a good camp? Yes. Are they miracle workers? I'm going to say no. The guys that are good were trained by one dude since childhood, essentially. A few years of training is not goign to change anything.

Ankalaev is sniffing title shot w 2 more wins

Ankalaev will be interesting...

To be fair, having three or four top contenders from Dagestan is pretty impressive. Dagestan's population is 3 million, around a tenth of the population of Texas.

It's not bad, but yeah, they're not wizards who can transform everybody's game.

Lol Dagestan doesnt have some special wrestling formula. These guys are badasses because they are raised like Spartans from a young age

Dagestan? Nah. People don't seem to realize that Gaethje is already a legitimately elite wrestler. His wrestling pedigree as a top ranked D1 wrestler is one of the better pedigrees of anyone in MMA right now. His wrestling is not an issue, his TDD has been just fine against anyone not named Khabib.

His BJJ on the other hand... that's the area that could use work. He does not seem comfortable at all on his back. He could probably improve his overall game with more of a commitment to BJJ training.... but having said that, with his current skillset and effective gameplanning he's already a problem for anyone else in the division. Khabib is just a different animal.

Its the way judo is mixed with their offensive wrestling. Your normal grappler is at a disadvantage when dealing with the way they seamlessly chain these together.

Islam and Khabib especially. The Russians were always tough, but their toughness outshone their skills alot of the time in the early days, until dudes like Fedor opened the floodgates and showed the way.

That's how i see it. Sure they have a lot of talents for such a small place, but bar Khabib, how many of them are elites (as is top 3 in the world)? Some of them might be, but theyll have to fight some better guys to prove it

I'm just saying none of those guys look like Khabib and they all look beatable and have been beaten. None of them are dominant to the point of Khabib but yes they have elite talent coming out of there, but it's not to be anything worth flying over there, imo.

ATT has Khabib's cousins there. It didn't help Barboza or Dustin Poirier. It's not going to help as much as people think it is. Not over a few years at least. These people been training that way since almost birth. You can't catch up at 33.

His initial TDD may be good. but I think he has one of the worst ground games of any top 10 fighter on the roster.

Hard to imagine a scenario where he doesn't get exposed his next few fights.
