I've only wore them twice. I like them, and I've actually had them help me on 2 submissions already... but they actually HURT me once too. The guy I was rolling with was trying to get hooks in from quarter position and when I tried to escape my leg his wrestling shoe stuck to the grip material and stopped the escape. LOL. It's really the only thing I could ever see happening like that... but it happened on the very first day I wore them. I don't plan on getting another pair, but it's not like I'm going to shelve these or anything. Just a heads up for anyone thinking of getting these shorts.
Interesting. Before I bought mine I thought the grip panels would be a double-edged sword, where it would help lock in subs but hinder in situations like this. So far I haven't really experienced anything really negative with mine, but then again I don't grapple with guys wearing wrestling shoes. Will try doing that one day and see if similar stuff happens.
Wow, I just got my pair the other day and have yet to wear them. I would not like to see the shorts put me in a bad situation, I don't role with shoes on but I am sure something else could happen in a negative way.
Most people at my gym don't wear them (shoes)... but some people do. It may happen without shoes as well but I haven't experienced it. It's just something for people to consider I guess when choosing their next pair of fight shorts. And just for reference, I own 6 pairs of MMA/Grappling shorts. 2x NoGi Jets, 1x NoGi Phantoms, 1x Sprawl V-Flex XT, 1x Sprawl G-Flex, 1x Cage Walks.
I have yet to experience anything negative. I have finished more oma-platas than usual on guys that usually do the rip my arm out defense. Not sure if it's the shorts or if I just feel more confident doing the technique.
