A quick summary of my experience with Fuji BJJ:

Event page says early weigh ins at 6:00pm on Friday. I can make that work. Confirmation email says they start at 5:30. Even better. I run a little water loading protocol over the week and stay dry on Friday to drop about 4 pounds, putting me at 170. Super easy cut. I zip down there after work and show up at 5:00 to make sure I'm first in line. I come to find out that the weigh ins don't start until 6:30. Annoying, but whatever. I hang around for an hour and a half and make some friends while I wait. Make weight and rehydrate.

Day of the tournament. Event page says my bracket starts at 3:30pm. I leave the house with enough time to make sure I make it there at 2:15 to have time to warm up and be ready for any scheduling fuckery. On the way there, I get a text saying "CONGRATULATIONS, you have won bronze in your division, flyweight purple." What the hell... already this is a shit show. I arrive and attempt to check in. Upon hearing my name, the event coordinator says, "Oh man, sorry. We were shouting your name but you weren't here so I pulled you from you brackets." Yeah no fucking shit I wasn't here, you guys told me that my brackets were at 3:30. Apparently they moved everything up 3 hours, and somehow mixed my competitor profile up with somebody else's so I wasn't notified.

At this point I'm visibly frustrated but the event coordinator says he will see what he can do and tries to get me a match. He goes and talks to a few people and comes back, tells me I've got a no gi match against a guy, whom he points out to me. Says I'm up any minute so I'd better get changed and get warm.

Game on, at least I have something to do here. I run my usual warmup protocol and get in the zone with my favorite music. I'm pacing outside the bullpen, feeling on point. 10 minutes go by. 20 minutes. I watch a few matches of other guys. Still nothing, my name hasn't been called or displayed on the monitors. I look over and see the guy I was supposed to face standing on the podium. Jesus Christ this is ridiculous. I find the event guy and ask him wtf is going on. He looks at his software and says, "looks like you just had your match?" No dude, I already told you you guys fucked up my profile and I haven't done a damn thing. His screen shows me having just competed like 10 minutes ago. At this point he's pretty embarrassed and just offers me a voucher. I demand a full refund instead as I have no intention of doing another Fuji. I have to get in touch with corporate to do that as his software won't allow it.

Super frustrating. Worst part is my coach made the trip down for me too and his time was wasted as well.

Fuji BJJ tournaments score: 0/10 would not recommend.

Yeah I did one and it was a pain in the ass. Took forever to get to my gi matches and then the No gi went so late into the night, my opponents left. I was there a good 8-9 hours. Then had a 2 hour drive home. Never again unless it's in my home city.

Seeing a pattern here, then. They either have garbage software or just absolute donutbrains running the logistics. Clownshow.

TBH most BJJ tournys are a shitshow. The only ones I've been impressed with are Grappling Industries.

Your experience sounds pretty bad tho.

Yeah I've never had a bad experience with Grappling Industries. I like the smoothcomp software too

one time i competed, i arrived at the venue at 9am because some of my guys were competing early. my division was supposed to be up at about 1pm, 4 of us in the brackets. shit takes all day, a girl doesn't tap to an armbar and gets her arm broken, she's with 2 guys in my division, and they take her to the hospital. so it's just me and another dude left... and our match is at 6pm. i must've warmed up 30 times by the time they finally called my name.

going into that match i was so fed up with everything, it's hard to put into words. at least i won, if i'd stayed there all day only to get my ass kicked in the finals, i would've been super pissed.

but as shitty as that was, it's still much better than what happened to you lol. especially the bullshit about not refunding you, that's just ridiculous.

I had a very similar experience like you but with Sports Jiu-Jitsu International Federation.

The head of the tournament kept trying everything he could to not get me a refund, eventually he gave in.

I had a bad experience with IBJJF and AJP.

I competed IBJFF masters in barcelona 2019, 5 hour delay because the system went down. Then the system came back up and it said my fight was at 730pm instead of 1pm. I decided to go to the beach for like 1 hour. I kept checking the online schedule. I come back at 3pm and then I am told that I have to fight right now. I got changed in front of everyone.

At a AJP event, all my opponents either missed weight or didn't pay. I weighed in they said I missed weight but I took a picture saying I was on weight. I also said i can weigh in again.

They said never mind it was fine, it was a mistake on their end. Then my favorite, warming up they told me that I was the only one in the bracket now.

Should have demanded your money been given back directly out of that retard's pocket and then taken your girl out for a succulent meal.

Lol just got an email from Fuji that they're under new management and we should see an improvement in tournament quality

That sounds like a dumpster fire.

Also why a software? FFS just do an excel table or even a paper notebook. Have we become to impotent as humans that we need a software for something as simple as a stupid privately run bjj tournament?

Inflatable expectations

A good software will refresh online during the competition

And a couple of other perks like that.

You can also see who is going and who are in your division even before subcribing

Because some orgs will offer that, you can't be the tourney that doesn't do that

Just like marathons, you need to have sportstats, so people can look you up online

But softwares cost a lot and the tournament will cost more because of it

Ok so vain shit. And then it just breaks down lol.

I swore off NAGA. I signed up to compete twice and coached some guys but always a epic clusterfuck.
As parasitic as IBJJF is to the community, they've always been the most organized.

Our experience with Fuji has been similar to what you describe. And we have also found Grappling Industries, while far from perfect, to be the superior product.

Same experience here. I quit NAGA after the gym was cleared because the number of people was causing a fire hazard. I’ve done only one IBJJF tournament, and all the times were right on the money. I actually almost got dq’d because I wasn’t expecting my match to begin on time.

that sucks, ive always had good experiences with fuji...the old five tourneys were the best ive ever been too, NAGA is far and away the worst

Anyone have any experience with BJJ Fanatics tournies? Saw they are doing some now.
