Hello, I recently received this Gi as a gift to add to my rotation of two older, more torn up single weave gis for judo class. I'll give you a few thoughts but more pictures than words because in terms of being good with words, I am...

not...

good.

Impressions
The gi is thick, with seams and patches that are taped and gives a high quality appearance. I like the Fuji branded tape on the cuffs and hem. There are few spots where some cotton seeds made it into the weave that I can't remove and hopefully no one at class thinks it's a speck of dirt and tries to brush or pick it out.

The diamond weave skirt feels a little thin, but that might just be a mental trick comparing it to the upper material.

The pants, well I usually wear HCK pants so I'm a bit spoiled. These pants are nicely reinforced and by all accounts a good judo gi pant. If only they were built for thicker legs and butts.

Fit
I am 5'8", 190 lbs, stocky, with most of my weight in the trunk and legs. Fuji classifies their size 4 as 5'6" to 5'11", 160 lbs to 190 lbs. Mostly correct. I have my old single weave size 5 gis that after months of shrinking are still a tad flappy. However, even on those flappy gis raising my arms straight forward like a zombie causes constriction in the shoulders and armpits. Pre-shrinking, this one does not have that tightness.

The jacket feels a bit large but this is pre-shrinking. The pants are too tight to be usable before shrinking and will not fit at all after shrinking. If anyone has a pair of size 5 pants of similar quality and would like to trade for some 4s, or wants to buy my 4s at a discount please send me a message.

Please take a look at the jacket pics and tell me if it looks about right for brand new.

Shrinkage
Brace for impact...

Performance
I better get some ippons in this or I'm tanking their amazon review ;) We'll see.

Cost With a retail for an adult mens size of just under a hundred dollars and free shipping from amazon, this gi is without a doubt a bargain. Doing some research there are a few in its category, KI, Gorilla, Kanku, etc. I haven't had any others to compare it to, but it feels well made for the cost.

By the way, if anyone has a hookup on those monster thick Gorilla Gis, get at me via PM.

Build quality looks like it's improved since I last bought a Fuji brand gi (~2006?). As for sizing, if you're going for max shrinkage (i.e. repeated dryer shrinkage until it shrinks no more), it may be a tight squeeze, particularly for tournament use (my 2 cents) -- assuming it's still non-preshrunk, of course.

Its not preshrunk, I was cold and wring/air dry so shrinkage should just get it where I want it. If not legal for a tournament, I'm sure I could borrow one of the many gis laying around the dojo if necessary.

Thanks for the review. Let us know how it holds up after a few classes. I was considering this gi for bjj as there aren't many double weave bjj gis anymore. Cheers.

If you're used to BJJ-style tapered cut gi's, you'll dislike this gi.

I will post some updates and a probably final shrunken pic.

If you like a slim tapered BJJ gi, you may not like this one. If you want a Gi cut for a more.... muscle-containing... man... then it could be what you're after.
