From Hell (2001) - Johnny Depp takes on Jack the Ripper

What sort did you get? I actually really loved the taste. I would drink it all the time if it wasn't so dear.

I can't remember. I have had it on multiple occasions. I just don't like the flavor of anise, so that puts Absinthe in a bad spot.

Yeah I don't normally like liquorice-type things, but for some reason I liked absinthe.

So he basically did the same movie twice?

LOL. They are two very different films. Sweeney Todd is a musical, for one.

Also, in From Hell he does not play the Ripper. He plays a detective going after the Ripper.

One thing I don't understand is why the Hughes Brothers' careers didn't take off after this movie. From Hell clearly showed that they could handle directing a big feature and do it well.

But neither brother has gone on to do very much since. Together they directed The Book of Eli. And then Albert Hughes made some documentary I've never heard of (We the Economy: 20 Short Films You Can't Afford to Miss). And Allen Hughes made Broken City with Mark Wahlberg and Russell Crowe.

And that's about it! Strange.

These guys are good and have a unique vision. They should make more films.

I remember that film. He rides off into a cloud of white opium smoke and croaks.

The end...

That's right, directed by the Hughes Brothers.

Dead Presidents Motherfuckers!

Oh, so he did do the same movie twice then (From Hell and Sleepy Hollow).

i remember bits and pieces. I also remember it being really gory.

It's one of the most forgettable movies in Hollywood history.
I watched it twice and still can't remember the details of what happened in the film.

Albert Hughes has a new movie coming out. About cavemen I think.

I never got round to seeing it.

Doesn't it have Heather Graham as a red head, too?

...

I need to watch it.

Hmm, interesting. That seems like it could go either way.

I'd need to see a trailer but that premise doesn't sound especially interesting to me.
Kodi Smit-McPhee has always been one of the better younger actors imo, so I'm interested to see how he does. He's still kinda got that "aw, shucks" young mentality. He did great in Slow West, though.
