I’m sure there is no answer that will modify your opinion, but they’ve been investigating the case for a decade. It’s a massive undertaking to get the facts on the table. It’s not like it looked like Le Pen would take power in 2015.

The accusations arose back in 2016 and there was a investigation launched. Actually the investigation into the defraud scheme began back in 2015 after a tip back in 2014, but it did not involve her initially.
The ongoing and growing investigation was public knowledge, even while she ran for president in 2017 and 2022.
The investigation was finally completed in 2023, and she had her day (weeks actually) in court in 2024.

You can accuse french justice system them of being slow with their investigation, but "suddenly" is not a word I would chose to use for this.

And its not like she is the first French politician that has been up for embezzling charges. François Fillon, former prime minister, did prison time after being sentenced in 2020 for embezzlement done in the late 90ies and early 2Ks
