My only issue with Tony's style is that he is aggressive to a fault. Which great to watch (I'd never want him to change this) but also puts him in bad spots. That armbar attempt in round 1 was not there at any point. Going for that only served to give lee a big opening to pass. And from there Tony got locked down for the rest of the round (inresting to see how Tony struggled to scramble under Lee's side control).

Aside from that, it was a masterclass from Tony. He defended very well. Round 2 was classic Tony. Rolling with punches, piling on the pressure, and slowly breaking Lee. Round 3 starts rough for Tony but he shuts down Lee's offense and got back to his feet. Lee shoots for a double, Tony drops elbows, and the rest is history.

That was a great fight. Great performance by Tony.

I think Tony's aggression is due a lot to the fact that he absolutely doesn't think there's a spot that he can't handle. If he aggressively goes for an armbar that's not there and gets his guard passed...meh. He gets mounted...oh well. At some point maybe that costs him? But damn if he didn't prove his own philosophy correct vs Lee. Kevin used all sorts of energy in rd 1 while in mount, spazzing out and trying to gnp with punches, elbows, everything. And the two things that happened were that Tony absorbed no damage and that Lee used a bunch of energy.

And it's funny to me how people are so locked in on Lee getting mount in rd 1. (Not you, but tons of people here). I dare someone to show me the last time Lee did NOT look like an absolute beast in rd 1. That's exactly who he is and what he does. He charges out of the gate like the best fighter on earth, and then fades. Tony, RDA, Oliveira, Iaquinta...same thing in each of those fights. Lee in rd 1 is unreal...and comes crashing back to earth as the fight goes on.

Just rewatched the fight pretty sure Tony wins 10/10 times.
I can't see Lee ever winning this

Uh huh, okay.

You have a good point other than the fact that Tony is actually capable off his back, has about 10x the gas tank of Conor, has no quit in him, and has more than one win at LW (12 in a row actually). And has utterly ruined the faces of 7 consecutive opponents.

Aside from that stuff you have a great point.
Ferguson has some of the most overrated grappling in the UFC. He got beat up by Lee and Castillo controlled him for portions of their fight. Ferguson is too willing and Khabib would run through Ferguson on the mat. It would be really easy. Lee got submitted because he became complacent and fatigued. Khabib will tripod and use a lot of shoulder pressure until he gets Ferguson in a crucifix and pummels him. Ferguson is fun, but his grappling isn't all that

You do know that Tony has submitted multiple guys who Khabib couldn't, right? Name the last BJJ black belt that Khabib finished prior to Poirer.

If lee didn’t have staph he would’ve ended the tony hype.

Tony is so underrated here. My fuck.

Dude wrecks nearly every fighter he's ever faced and he still gets talked about like he's some fucking can that will be easier than nearly ever fight Khabib's had

I am not sure if Khabib's fanbase are delusional, in denial or scared to acknowledge how good Tony actually is.

I think they try to convince themselves more than anything that Tony isn't a good enough fighter to be in there with khabib but Conor was by comparison....

What a fucking joke this place can be sometimes.

U hit the nail on the head.

Like I said Khabib fans are just former Conor fanboys.

It’s crazy how underrated Tony really is given his accomplishments.

Lee "beat him up" LMAO. No, he didn't. He got mount and then did zero damage with it. Castillo tried to lay on him and ate elbows and lost.

We'll see what happens if he fights Khabib. My guess is that Khabib has early sucess and that changes as the fight goes on. I do agree that Tony can't take unnecessary risks with his grappling against someone as good as Khabib. He gets away with it vs other guys that he knows can't make him pay.

Reminds me a lot of Werdum. Look at the Cain fight for example, 0 fucks about takedowns and it showed in his striking. Made Cain the wrestler look like a bobble head.

The opposite is actually true..

A significant number of Conor fans in the last few months, especially on this forum.. have suddenly become Tony diehards.

Shameless.

That's right, I forgot about the 5'7 featherweight who barely had an above .500 record in the UFC. I'm sure Tony would have had lots of trouble against him.
Just answering your question dude. No need to be so aggressive.

I actually had a dream about kevin lee last night. He was in a fight and squeezed his own leg until it came off at the knee. Then, somehow he was missing both of his arms below the elbow, screaming in pain.

I was watching band of brothers before i fell asleep
