Frank Shamrock Vs Dan Henderson (The Contender 1997)

Just for perspective, Randy and Hendo went to a BJJ school in So-Cal soon afterwards, wearing a gi with white belts.
They wanted to learn this submission stuff...
There was an old pic of them in their gis, but I can't find it.

i like them both, not sure wha a 20 yr old grappling match means in todays UFC forum, but thanks.

Frank was a beast.
Thanks for that TS, I had never seen it.

Frank was definitely a beast in his prime. Great grappling and locks.

Frank was so ahead of the game back then. Real shame he did not fight for longer

There was a period where Frank was ahead of his time. Wish more fighters used leg locks these days.

I still haven't figured out why people aren't practicing Paul Harris' technique. Everyone else seems so far behind with leg locks (except Ryan Hall and a few others). I'm surprised heel hook success rates are still so low, and it's been a pretty long time since I've seen a straight ankle lock attempt.

Yes, Frank was awesome......unreal that Hendo is still fighting almost 20 years later

Thanks TS, good find

This is OLD and doesn't count on their professional MMA records because it was considered exclusively a grappling match.

i hear that.....but regarding the straight ankle lock, its an achilles lock and its only a pain lock, you can get out of it by pushing the ankle forward......it really doesnt cause damage

Now heel hooks, THOSE can be dangerous.........and thats what he caught hendo with in this vid.....it reaps the knee......painful shit afterwards

To you guys that haven't seen this: Look up Frank vs Kevin Jackson. It is just as impressive

never seen this footage, tnx for sharing
