I'll be honest, I didn't follow MMA intently back then (started in 2010) but this really perplexes me. Shogun might've been injured but Forrest was still good enough to win.

Some people say that the Rampage win was a robbery but I disagree. It was a close fight and he greatly damaged Rampage's leg. He very likely won 3 out of 5 rounds.

Also beat Tito twice, Franklin, Bonnar(2x) and Sonnen.

Nope that is a shit list of wins.

Forrest is a really likeable and funny guy. Glad he got out of the cage soon and did not get too damaged. With his fighting style he always took damage.

Let us not forget he was the first TUF winner and changed the UFC's direction.

Beat Sonnen years ago, Bonner isn't a big win, and neither was Tito in the second fight.

Lost to Shogun when he was healthy, got KO'd by Jardine and Jeremy Horn.

Top 20 LHW but thats it

Shogun and Rampage are 2 of the best back 2 back wins on any resume

Rampage lost fair and square too imo, no robbery

Unfortunately for Forrest the above sequence (and fight) cannot be unseen.

Thats being generous. Barely got through Bonnar the first time, Tito got robbed in the last fight, and he pretty much got tooled if he couldn't over power people.

Liddell, Forrest, and brandon vera

Of course, if you claw at a way to discredit all his big wins he can be top 50 lol

He has two big wins all time

Even if you give him 100% credit for them that still means he falls significantly short when talking about elite LHW's of all time

Plus I'll always remember him as the guy who ran out of the cage after losing

Sarcastically want to blame Forrest for motivating a generation of slow clunky "scrappy" type dudes to take up MMA.

Anyways I think Forrest Griffin has a well secured place in MMA history. He won't be remembered as being as good as Shogun or Rashad or Jones or any other top level 205ers historically but he was probably as significant as those guys if not more so.

Shogun vs Forrest 2 was one of the most redeeming fights of all time.

He beat rampage too

He is a great guy, funny, always upbeat and had no problem laughing at himself. I will
never forget when he first came around. "My girlfriend said I was not a lover,
so I must be fighter." He is one of the good guys!

his first fight with Shogun gets overshadowed by the conversation of Shogun being injured, and people underrate how good of a fight it was

Forrest beat Shogun and Rampage back to back when both were ranked 1

Super impressive.

I think he is perfect in his UFC standing as is. - He is a UFC Hall of Famer
-- First inductee in the "Modern Wing" of the UFC HOF
--- #1 fight in UFC history according to their HOF

He had some great fights - a lot of upsets and was tough as hell. Not nearly the best P4P or even in his division all time but that is ok.
He will always be a legend for ushering in the newer era and many of his fights ( Silva fight not included).

Ok sure he lost to Horn, but put it into perspective. Jeremy was in his prime at that point and on a fourteen fight win streak. Also the same thing could be said about Chuck Liddel, he lost to Horn and Jardine too. Would you discredit Chuck for losing to the same three you mentioned above ?

Griffin's win over shogun doesn't count because of injury. Well you could say Forrest had a reason for losing to Shogun in the rematch. A few minutes before he walked out he gets a call from the US saying his wife is in labour and having issues. That would fuck with any fighters mind before entering the cage. Still don't know why to this day they didn't tell him after the fight. Not like he could have gotten back to the US faster.

Every win or loss in the cage can be belittled, questioned or whatever.

Name me 19 LHW 's that have done more in the UFC? Damn, the guy deserves credit for bringing it on that TUF finale alone. If not we wouldn't have the UFC in existence today. Can't think of 19 of them that have done more than that. Boils down to more than wins , losses.

everyone agrees he's one of if not the biggest overachiever in the sports history I think that's plenty enough credit.

I fucking love Forrest Griffin, dude was probably the biggest overachiever to ever compete in MMA.
