Former UFC fighter John Alessio now drives cabs in Vegas

Why?

He's working, he looks good.

Apart from a tiny number of superstars, ex-athletes do have to work after retiring from sports.

AND driving a cab in Vegas probably affords him knowledge of where the bitches at.

I don't think this was the point of the thread, but I get where you're coming from. A lot of people don't know how business works. Just because you have a few fights in the UFC doesn't mean you're entitled to be set for life.

Although I would like to see them offer a pention to the guys that held spots in the top 10 or give some of the NHB legends like Tank Abbott or Ken Shamrock a piece of the pie. It doesn't have to be anything huge, but I think they could spare 50k a year. They could keep the revenue going by having them do something on fight pass here and there.

Who cares? The man's working,...if you read Allesio's bio, he came up old school, started training in Canada, fought on all sorts of regional shows, put in a lot of time before having a few fights in the UFC.

He never made GSP level money. He works, driving cabs in Vegas, could be worse.

It's called 'life after fighting ', people work ts, hard to believe isn't it lol.

wow , I never thought that trying to be a professional athlete might be a risky life decision

maybe he should have gone to college more often instead of to the gym if he didn't want to end up driving cabs

Gordie Howe used to work summer jobs when he was in his prime.

These guys know before getting into the sport where the money is.

BTW, if Gordie and his elbows ever took up MMA he would have held the HW and LHW straps simultaneously.

The article says Alessio is still an active fighter, and drives on the side, and will go into law enforcement after proper retirement from the sport. The writer of the article doesnt have a clue if Alessio has got money saved up or not. The guy could be a millionaire and just works to stay active for all we know.

Don't they have Uber in the states?

Read the article.

That dynamic fasteners money tho

Not anymore...

Next thing you know, someone’s going to tell me that becoming an actor or singer doesn’t guarantee being a celebrity millionaire. It’s bullshit I tell ya!

He didn't know how to play the game.

In all fairness a lot of athletes have to get a job, NFL,NBA and MLB players most of them do. They don't play long enough to get really great money or in Allesio's case he just wasn't good enough-never was a top 10 fighter. I remember when he fought Sanchez I was expecting a lot more from him.

My fiance's mom has her bachleros degree can't get a teaching job and even the jobs she has got pay less then what I make in IT off a 2 year degree. She's making nearly half of what I did. She's devoted much more time than John.
That is because a bachelors is nothing these days. I got trainees with masters

His a good looking guy, should do the american version of Fake Taxi

The UFC is the top. Like the NHL, NBA, NFL, etc.
No its not. It is a private FOR-PROFIT company that operates independently, not as a sanctioning organization/league like the NHL/NBA/MLB etc.

Yes perhaps, but you can't overlook the fact that he only had 5 fights in the UFC and lost 4 of them. His first UFC fight was 16 years ago, not like they got a lot of money then (not like lower tier fighters get plenty now but still).

And on the other side, the guy did something he loved doing for over 17 years, got to travel the whole world for it. Now he's only 37 years old, so what he still need another job right now? The way things are going in Belgium I will have to work untill I'm 68 before you get a pension.

The guy has 54 fights
Has been fighting professionally since 1998
You really think after devoting 17 years of your life to a sport it's acceptable to have no money to enjoy your retirement?
Fucken' goof.
most people still have to work more than 17 years to enjoy retirement. If u start working at 18 that only makes u 35, a young age to retire
