Former Grad Student Accuses Neil De Grasse Tyson Of Rape

A woman who attended grad school with Neil deGrasse Tyson says the now-famous astrophysicist drugged and raped her at the University of Texas back in 1984.

Tchiya Amet tweeted her allegations as part of the "#MeToo" campaign — a social media-based effort to help women reveal incidents of sexual harassment, sexual abuse, and rape in their past. Amet made the same claims in 2014 and again in 2016, and resurfaced a blog post from 2014 as part of the effort.

David McAfee, an outspoken atheist and author — and fan of Tyson — has been trying to get Tyson to answer the allegations, ostensibly to clear his name, but so far Tyson has refused to comment. McAfee has been chronicling the incident at Patheos, having followed the story for some time, and confirming that Amet and Tyson were classmates.

He has a talkshow on siriusxm and instead having knowledgeable scientists on he has comedians that interject pointless humor into the conversation everytime he starts to talk about something interesting.

And because he craves being a celebrity he attempts to keep the humor going which removes any actual learning from the topic so we are left with b grade impromptu jokes.

Why? What makes her less credible than the countless other women who have accused famous men? If you say she is a crazy drama queen or something, that is irrelevant. Crazy women can be raped too. McGowan is a nut case too.

For a start, the accuser, currently a practitioner of astrology, says she was a graduate student with Tyson in "galactic astronomy" at UT in 1984.

Tyson did study astronomy at UT. But he completed his masters in spring 1983. He went to Columbia to get an MS and phd after that.

This is without touching the minefield of unrelated crazy that is her blog . . . I agree that the time frame is the best issue, and that her being "lol crazy" is not a good argument.

I think "lol crazy" is distinguishable from the fact that she has made a host of other plainly untrue and delusional assertions alongside the one TS is relying upon, and that is a solid argument. That's the minefield I referred to in passing.

Same with her interest in astrology. By itself, it's a pretty meaningless "lol crazy" issue but it undermines a predicate of her claim-that she was an astronomy student at a high-tier grad program.

Really? The burden of proof is on you, sister. And regardless of the whether or not Tyson is guilty, he did not stop you from becoming an astrophysicist.
