Almost 2 years into BJJ training and in the last 3 weeks or so, suddenly my forearm muscles (palm side) running from my palm to my elbow lock up completely after 2 or 3 rolls. I've never had this before until now. It feels a lot like the muscles are flexing without me doing anything. Its very tight, more importantly, why is this starting to happen now after almost 2 years? Nothing really changed in my rolls or anything. Its making it very hard to mount any kind of offense or even defense on subsequent rolls. It takes about 15-20 minutes for the muscles to relax a bit to the point where I can use my arms again.

Anyone have or had this kind of issue suddenly pop up like this? I appreciate any help or advice as always.

You might want to look into compartment syndrome.

Maybe you are gripping for dear life. I know this used to be a problem for me. Next time you train consciously pay atttention to how much you are gripping.

You need to grip of course, but you need to know when to really hold on and when you can just hold. I don’t know how to describe it, it’s a happy medium when I’m gripping, then when I need to, I apply my vice like grips. It has to be timed just right.

I had this problem too. Got to the point where my arms were hurting bad outside of training too. Came to a head when I was trying to use some hedge clippers and it was too painful.

I realised the muscle(s) which run from the pinky side of the palm down to the elbow were INSANELY tight. I started massaging them every day. At first all I could handle was light pressure. Eventually they loosened up and I could massage them firmly.

Haven't really had a problem since, even though my training frequency is far more intense than it used to be. Every so often they'll feel a little tight, but a bit of a massage sorts that out.

I also do yoga regularly, for what it's worth.

Might wanna lay off the fapping abit.

Get a nice girlfriend to do this. Or a training partner or something.
My ex managed an ice cream shop and she had chronic pain from scooping constantly. I did this for her and it made a big difference.

Monthly massage is the bare minimum I need to keep training. Try deep tissue sports massage. You won't know how tight you even are until they jab at ya. If a muscle gets too tight your body over compensates and then may Injure another part of your body. Stay healthy and get a massage

I remember this happening to both my forearms and both my thighs at the end of class on separate occasions, but it happened only once or twice a long while ago so it wasn't really an issue. And it hasn't happened since. Just rest your arms and don't have a death grip I guess.
