For those that have RECENTLY watched and scored Covington VS Usman 2... tell me why I'm wrong ....

Ok so yes I know Colby is always in character and obviously he is holding onto this image that he won the 2nd Usman fight and pretending everyone thought he won. Yesterday I decided to watch it and see for myself. In my memory I thought it was close but Usman definitely should have been declared the winner. Also I don't know about you guys but I love re-watching fights because it's almost NEVER like I remembered it. I think we all go into watching fights with some bias and having a desire to see a certain fighter win. Anyway...

Round 1 - Pretty uneventful but Usman landed a little more and pushed the pace more. Colby seemed to have a slow start and seemed tentative. 10-9 Usman

Round 2 - Usman landed some huge shots and dropped him TWICE and ended the round with Colby face down just blasting him in the ribs with hard shots. That's a 10-8 in my eyes without a doubt.

Round 3 - Colby is having his best round so far. Getting more comfortable and starting to land some shots and utilize his wrestling a little. I'd honestly say that Usman won most of this round but Colby won the last 2 min pretty convincingly. Now I am no judge and correct me please if I am wrong but I thought the winner of the round gets 10 points the loser 9 or less. I believe if you think the round was a draw you can do a 9-9 to me this round was a 9-9.

Round 4 - Colby won this round clearly. Landed the better shots and even stunned Usman a few times, Higher volume and his best round yet. 10-9 Colby

Round 5 - Looked a lot like round 4 but maybe a little bit closer but to me Colby also clearly won a 10-9 with round 5. 10-9 Colby

Usman 47 - Colby 46 in my opinion is the proper score for this fight. Round 3 is the real question mark and it's when Colby starts to turn the corner and really put it all together in the 2nd fight. I really just think that round was a draw BUT even if you score round 3 for Colby I don't see how you can say round two was not a 10-8 for Usman therefore at best Colby would have a draw but still can't say he even beat Usman. For what it's worth i'd like to see colby get a 3rd fight and win the title.
Draw rounds are 10-10, but they basically never happen. It almost seems that they're very heavily encouraged to pick a winner, almost to the point of, the director would be questioning one more for a 10-10 than they would for a 10-7. I'd have to rewatch round 2 to see how much I believe it HAS to be a 10-8. I remember scoring it that way, but like you said, rewatching does feel different and I think plenty of people suggest it could have just been a really good 10-9. Still makes it an extremely close fight, but I think there's no question that the winner of the 'fight' (rounds by damned) was clearly Usman.

Think you could give Colby the 5th or the 3rd but to give him both those rounds is a bit biased.
I can't even begin to explain how that makes zero sense.

a 9-9 round lmao
When judges decide to do their own point deductions

That's how I saw it.
Colby put up a formidable effort and all credit towards him for that, especially after getting basically flash KO'd twice in a row.

That being said, I scored it for Usman.
At best I could score a draw for Colby, but that's being EXTREMELY generous.

{<redford}

9-9 rounds don't exist without a point deduction.

10-10 rounds also don't exist in how MMA is actually scored, and the scoring criteria states that even the smallest difference in any scoring category would be enough to win.

If neither man threw a strike or attempted a TD the guy closer to the center of the cage would win on octagon control (a criteria never otherwise even considered)

If both men stayed at their starting point without attempting any martial arts techniques at all, a guy could win 10-9 on aggression by making a mean face.

There are no even rounds without a point deduction.

A draw is a 10-10 but it's very rare

I still want to see a 3rd fight because it looked like Covington started to get the upper hand in the last couple round. Perhaps Usman gassed out, but Covington was very tentative in the first few rounds and I think that was a mistake. He gave too much respect to the punching power. Even though he's very dangerous you can't fight like that in a championship fight and expect to win. Usman has a good enough gas tank to grind it out if he's not pressured.

. That said... while that may be the path to victory he still is putting himself in the fire by fighting that way and there were MANY punches in the 2nd fight from Usman that just missed by centimeters that I think would have basically put Colby to sleep the same way he slept Usman. It really is an intriguing match up.
When did Colby sleep Usman lol?

I lean 48-47 Usman and I'm not a fan of his or Colby. I had 1,2,3 for Usman with the second being the clearest and the third being very close. No 10-8 for round 2 because Colby recovered/defended well and was not close to being finished.

I can't even begin to explain how that makes zero sense.

Try your hand big boy.

Meaning a lot of close situations have to judged at the same time going Colby's way, which is possible but a lot more forced than just giving either the 3rd or the 5th to Usman.

But I'm sure it makes zero sense because internet big boy says so.

Usman won a close one, both fights were lit, Colby is the only guy at WW who can push Usman

I truly believe that Usman has a couple notches on Colby as an MMA fighter.

Usman is bigger, cuts a lot more weight to fight at 170, and obviously hits harder than Colby. Their wrestling is pretty much a wash. That's definitely two notches for Usman. Colby would have likely won a championship if Usman weren't in the division at the same time though I dont know how long he'd hold on to it.

I think the biggest fight for either of them right now from a fan perspective is with Khazmat. Just because of the mystique he already has. Nobody really knows how good he is though.

Definitive rounds for Usman - Rounds 1 & 2 with round 2 possibly being scored a 10-8 for Usman afrer he drops Colby twice.

Definitive rounds for Colby - Round 4. He rocks Usman to end the round.

Swing rounds are 3 and 5. Usman outlanded Colby in both these rounds. Neither did enough to definitively put their stamp on either round. You would have to give Colby both these rounds to say he won the fight.

Me personally i think Usman won the first 3 minutes of the 3rd then Colby started to turn it around but Usman did enough early to win that round. I think Colby might've won the 5th but he makes a crucial mistake shooting for a takedown after he just won another exchange with Usman on the feet. Usman easily stuffs it and regains his witts. Rest of the fight is uneventful.

I scored it for Usman, but neither came out looking very good to be honest
