He has been completely MIA since Conor went ahead and signed the deal to fight Nate Diaz and officially returned to the UFC, obviously putting the complete kibosh on their proposed match.

Floyd had been the one leaking this info and doing interviews, he was the one releasing these "promos" with Conor and himself facing off for the proposed boxing match. You even had relatively professional journalists such as Colin Cowherd and boxing guys saying they were sure the match was official and happening around September I believe.

Seems to me Floyd wasted all this time and injury only to further promote Conor and in turn the UFC and get absolutely no benefit of his own, as he has no match lined up and even said he's refuse to come out of retirement except for Conor.

So did for once in his life was Floyd simply used to build publicity for Conor? Seems to me McGregor is smart enough to know he was never getting out of the UFC contract to take that fight and just humored Mayweather to keep his name relevant and pressure on the UFC and it worked brilliantly.

No. They used each other for PR and I'm very sure both knew it and may have even collaborated in doing it.

The UFC and their lighter weight fighters riding Floyd's coattails for publicity?

Of course not.

You guys think to much about this stuff.

What good is PR for Floyd if he has no match? Conor does, he has PPVs to sell, Floyd does not.

Lighter weight fighters? You do realize Floyd started fighting at like 130-pounds and would never touch 170 like McGregor did right?

But Conor isn't selling any ppvs either, his rematch with Nate will not sell any better despite Mayweather's influence..

I guarantee you Conor got a boost in popularity from that little saga and most importantly it kept his name in the spotlight and on all the sports talk shows/radio while he was "retired"
Floyd weighs 150?
He started at 130, he fights at 147 now, like I said dude would never have the cajones to go to 170 let alone 155.

you must not have noticed the higher ratings for the smaller Showtime events that have been featuring TMT fighters

oops

lol at cajones

Conor wanted the fight at 170, and he fought a guy who normally fights at 155...

Floyd is smarter than Conor, and knows he wouldn't be able to beat a top fighter of that weight, it has nothing to do with "cajones"

If Conor had such large "cojones" he would have called out Jon Jones instead of RDA

Lol oh come on dude still 155 is something Floyd has never done. And you won't give credit for going up 25 pounds?

You want a guy who fights at 145 to go to 205?

Okay buddy I'll have what you're smoking.

You are right TS, but Shertards are too butthurt about Conor to admit it.

Yeah I don't even like Conor but some of these replies are hilarious, yeah Conor was the one riding coattails as Floyd only managed to sell 500k his last PPV and is also the one fueling all the press about the fight, posting images and promo posters.

UFC 202 is in August

Floyd and Conor can fight anytime after that
If I'm correct the rumor was either December or September

UFC 202 doesn't ruin anything
In fact it's just a warm up fight for my boy conor

Floyd didn't turn down free publicity, and that's exactly what he received.

Whereas Conor on the other hand looks like a fool for trying to hype up and fight that was never going to happen...period.

And you can believe it or not, but Conor knew it wouldn't happen. Now, was it a smart move for him to pull the wool...(or, try to) fuck no. He's not a boxer, and most people on Sherdog knew that Conor was just...being Conor.

So...what's the point as it pertains to my post of UFC using Floyd's name for years in dream matchup scenario's in order to promote their own lighter weight fighters? Like Conor who is in fact a lightweight fighter no matter how many foolhardy endeavors he takes on at higher weight classes in the past or in the future.

This particular instance. I think Floyd was a willing participant in this publicity stunt...everyone knew the fight was bullshit.

Wait so Conor looks like a fool for hyping a fake fight but Floyd is cool and got "free publicity" for doing the exact same thing?

Talk about double standards dude lmao.
