For a few years many people claimed that HW was dying, now it is looking solid again with a good combination of promising younger fighters, old vets who are still competitive, and guys in between like Lewis and Struve. Does the revitalization of HW show that gloom and doom regarding a division is usually unwarranted?

Curtis Blaydes is coming

Heavyweight is still dying; the doom and gloom is warranted.

They need Brock back.

Blaydes, Volkov, Tybura, and Ngannou (even though he already fought for the title)? And the Pillsbury Doughboy if he continues to be successful. :D

Wasn't Shoey-vasa HW?

All 1st round KOs. Could replace Hunt

This division will always have ups and downs but the best fighter in the world fights here so that'll always make it interesting. People were getting pretty hyped on ngannou we will have to see if he can make a comeback. I think lesnar and Jon jones will both fight and at hw this year which will help interest drastically.

I don't see much of a revitalization. ngannou just got exposed, and lewis and struve are the reason why people think it's weak in the first place. the rest of it is just plain old.

The truth is always in between two extremes when it comes to sherdog.

To begin with, only 2 of those guys are even young. Blaydes is the most exciting prospect of your list and he's a community college wrestler... Community college wrestlers don't even get into the UFC in other divisions. They aren't good enough.

Fighters like Ngannou and Lewis are examples of why the HW division is so terrible. Walking into, supposedly, the highest level of the sport in the UFC HW division and both Francis and Derrick started training their first combat sport at the age of 26... In other divisions fighters already have 10 years experience in at least 1 martial art by that time. It's embarrassing.

A for effort the fact we can only name less than 20 fighters that are new and under 25 is a big problem

HW division definitely has the weakest talent pool. There just is not enough that big guys around and the real talent go to other more lucrative sports.

Yeah, just look at the scrub Jon Jones. What a can!

Eh, it's still really thin. Reem is on his way out, Werdum probably has 2 years left and more shot at the title, Struve will forever be a low rank guy, Arlovski is on his way out, Albini impressed no one, Tim Johnson is still GOAT, that Golm dude who was supposed to be a big Brazilian prosepct lost to Tim Johnson, Hunt is on his way out, JDS is USADAed, Black Beast will never get to the top, Tybura is so meh, Volkov is so meh, and Cain will probably only be back for a few fights. The only big new guys are Ngnanou and Blaydes, and they are both fun.

Rumble and Jones were JUCO wrestlers lol. Luke Cockhold, Mighty Mouse and Dom Cruz were high school wrestlers.
