His father talked about him not continuing with the UFC after his contract was up and possibly going into boxing. Given this footage, you think Tom stands any chance of making it in boxing?

I think he might do well against a Jake Paul. A Logan Paul. Someone like KSI.

Aspinall is the GOAT, Jones is a bum, Gane is an even bigger bum. End of discussion.

No chance at the top. He would do well against low level competition, due to his athleticism, power, and natural talent. Those would likely overcome any potential skill gap (he is a professional fighter and probably still trains more general boxing than amateurs or low-level pros) at the lower levels.

That said, at the higher levels the skill gap will be too big. Actual boxers who focus on professional boxing will piece him up. An effective jab and semi competent defense should nullify the early blitz and looping overhands. By the time he enters the 4th round his athleticism will be effected by fatigue, which will also dull his power leaving him with only his natural talent. Even natural talent will decrease as his mind tires. That is to say nothing about high level boxers, whose skill advantage will remain level, who will be talented in their own capacity, and who are likely athletic and talented.

Look at Darren Hill, who is actually doing OK. He has one professional win... against Luke Rockhold. So, no professional wins.

all he needs is 1 top level fight and he'll get paid and come back to UFC.. it's clear as day what the goal is, and I support it. Why not strike when the iron is hot and get all you can - you're not a fighter forever. Clock is ticking.

I thought it was one of those "celebrity "boxes" kid with down syndrome" fights.

Darren till is actually a competent boxer, just not at a very high level. Hes still better than his peers besides mike perry.
I see someone like Tom being beat to shit by anyone decent in boxing. Dads lookin to get that saudi money for him to fight a bum.

he would be solid. boxing has a strange pedigree. there are probably a few million active boxers. and about 20-50 really elite guys who noone stands a chance against (except other elite guys)

guy like aspinall could be managed properly to a 10 or 12-0 record before he fought someone who really could beat him. the problem with this is twofold. you got guys with the talent matched poorly getting derailed. and you got guys who cant fight 25-0.

he would have no prayer against the top 5 without years of careful progression.

I dont think he will win a title or anything but he probably would make enough money that it's worth going in there and doing.

He leaves his chin in the air way too much and his boxing is pretty basic. His athleticism and power is also not as exceptional by HW boxing standards as it is in HW MMA. Had he stuck with it he might have found a bit of a following as a fun undercard guy since hes from the UK which is a boxing mad nation, but he wouldnt have gone far beyond that, imo.

IDK I think Jake's fundamentals look more solid.

Tom Aspinall's relationship with his father has some clear indications of toxicity, not unlike the one between Michael Jackson and Joe Jackson. While Tom's success is undeniable, it's hard to ignore the overbearing influence his father seems to have on his career and public narrative. From the constant defense of Tom in the media to the seemingly unquestionable control over his son's image, it draws parallels to the hyper-controlling nature Joe Jackson displayed with Michael.

I'm not sure if it's fair to show footage from 2017 and ask question about his current self, like he can't learn anything over the years, lol. But Sherdog isn't about being fair, we are ruthless out here.

People drastically over estimate the level of skill at HW boxing.

You know how HW mma is dogshit after the top handful of guys?
Same shit in boxing.

Now unfortunately, if you want a major title, you gotta deal with that handful of guys... but

6'5 and athletic with some power, halfway decent movement and shit head movement would probably go pretty far in boxing.

Let's not pretend like HW boxing is some fucking shark tank with insane depth of talent. There's quite a few fat guys in their late 30s and early 40s circling the drain and doing pretty good even with massive flaws in their game.

I know I have a reputation as an Aspinall hater and all that but I'm not even trying to fuck around by saying that if Jake Paul was the same size as Tom that he would knock the dogshit out of him in boxing. Heck I'm not sure Tom beats him as it is.
