Final thoughts on the fight after a slow-mo rewatch:
With all due respect to Conor, Floyd carried him the whole time. It's true that McGregor landed more punches than most do against Mayweather and he did win the first three rounds, but that's largely due to the fact that Floyd never really felt threatened enough to turn on the defense and he was clearly letting Conor tire himself out in those early rounds. It's not unusual that Floyd takes a few rounds to calculate his opponent anyway.
It only takes one viewing of McGregor-Diaz II to know Conor doesn't have the gas tank to go 12 rounds and Mayweather, being the experienced veteran he is, knew he could drag him into deep waters with relative ease. In the post fight interviews, you'll hear Conor constantly praising Floyd's composure, and the reason for that is he just watched Money barely break a sweat while he gave it everything he had, with many advantages, and still fell short by a mile.
McGregor DID have a couple noteworthy moments, though! That big uppercut he landed in the first round was as clean a shot as Floyd's been hit with in recent memory, and I think he really hurt Floyd with that body shot at the beginning of the 9th. Mayweather calls it a low blow, and we don't get the greatest angle of it, but it looks like a clean body shot to me. It's possible that Floyd was hamming it up trying to sell the low blow, but either way, Conor shot himself in the foot when he used the opportunity to take Floyd's back rather than land some meaningful punches.
Last point of note: I'm quite sure McGregor was studying Vasyl Lomachenko footage for this fight. There's a great video on youtube called "Vasyl "Hi-Tech" Lomachenko: The Tricks" and I noticed Conor trying to use at least three of them, including the one where he knocks down your guard to create an opening with one hand, then hooks ya with the other.
I believe that when the dust settles and this fight is yesterday's news, Floyd will admit that this was his easiest fight in the last 10 years of his career. With that said, Conor deserves all the respect in the world and earned every penny of his big payday.
