Leaving aside the idea that it's the exclusive cause*, if you ask me, that's not so much of a theory as an observation of reality**. But I asked him specifically because I want to know if he knows what he is complaining about. At least 75% of the time you see these kinds of threads here, they're based upon false premises and/or deliberate misstatement of the issue. So, I'd like for the people supporting the OP to explain exactly what they think Critical Race Theory is and detail why it's bad. Then, when I will go and learn about it in some detail and I won't be surprised at all if what they said is a bunch of nonsense; it certainly won't be the first time. Mean time, there's no sense arguing with them because they're likely not even discussing reality but instead a belief they have derived from their confirmation biases. To put that another way, once they've been told what to think it's hard to get them to see reality. FWIW I think @Sickness1 is the likeliest exception to that rule ITT so I particularly want his perspective on the actual issue at hand.

It's like the argument that BLM were violent during the protests last year. The complaint that certain people at the protests started shit as soon as it got dark is valid, but it's not valid to conflate that with the entire movement or the far more fundamental issue of racism in policing--rather the purpose is to deflect and get people arguing about something other than that. Ditto the argument that it's bad for the entire LGBTQ community to conflate the sexual preferences of gay people with the gender identity issues facing trans people. Yes, that's dumb and damaging to the discourse, but it is commonly used to disparage trans people and deflect from the main issue of how best to respect the humanity and dignity of the trans community and impede the progress of destigmatizing them because this lot can never get enough of scapegoating whatever group they can attach a label to.

You see this tactic over and over in the WR. You rarely get an honest answer when you confront them with that question directly, however.

My older friend in Portland got blindsided by his local government promoted intersectionality (young POC, LGBTQ, gender, socioeconomic status) first over the elderly and immunocompromised for the vaccine rollout.....now he takes this stuff seriously.

That type of politicizing of the vaccine is a result of ideas from CRT.

I mean, I'm trying to give you the benefit of the doubt because you seem like a good guy to me no matter your political views, but from my point of view you're saying why do we need this when you don't have a clear understanding of what it is you appear to be dismissing as unneeded. That is, when you say, "Why do we need critical race theory", I assume you mean it's unneeded and are asking to be convinced of the contrary.

Again I understand what you are saying. Yes I do need to look up more about critical race theory before judging it. Sorry for my stupidity at time's. "The institutions in America were built on racism,...and to benefit white folk, and only white folk. (they are slowly expanding this to Asians too). if you benefit from this system, then you are racist. and since only white people benefit from this system, only white people can be racist. "

this is CRT in a nutshell. it is categorically condemning an entire race to being "racist" because they purportedly benefit from a "racism system" with out factoring in any other variables such as their socio-econonic status, their family upbringing etc.
