Fiziev needs to go down to FW

You can't tell me a dude with his frame can't make 145. He is a very small lw. I actually think he would be a huge contender at fw and be a problem for everyone there. Get your diet in check and do the cut.

He's only small in height. I wouldn't be surprised if that guy is ripped at 180lbs. He's built like a tank.

I agree that he looks a little small at 155, but does losing muscle and cutting down 10 more pounds help his game?

At the end of the day he looks elite in the first round and then fades pretty noticeably by the third. I think that's his biggest problem at the moment, regardless of 145 or 155

His cardio is already suspect to be a weight bully.

He’s jacked. I think he just has to try and deal with being a bit short for the division. Not every guy can be a champ either. At this point, I see him as a good but not truly elite fighter.

Fiziev clearly underestimated Gaychee, sure old Gaychee Fiziev might've blow through him but concentrated Gaychee isn't to be trifled with

Length isn't his problem thus far, cardio is. Dudes a serious front runner. His build is fine.

Yeah his cardio isn’t great. I think it’s a bit tough though when you’re a shorter striker. It helps if you can kick like he can.

Being shorter isn't tough, it's different. He can kick blisteringly well from the outside and he's great at ripping shots and putting combinations together in close, as long as he can get off the center line and close distance he should clown longer guys. He just gasses after about 7 minutes routinely.

I understand what you’re saying but I think the massive octagon does work better (generally) for longer strikers. But Volk is a dominant champ and guys like Yan can outstrike Sandhagen.

Fiziev can win a striking battle against most guys in the division though. I don’t know if he will be able to fix his cardio, especially when it comes to 25 minute fights. He throws everything with power so if he held back a bit more that might help. I still see him hitting a wall at some point though.

He really throws everything into nearly every shot like a lot of Muy Thai guys do. Aldo was like that for a long time, too, but at least Aldo knew how to pace himself and developed a good energy efficient jab that he could rely on while he would try to slow the pace down. I feel like Fiziev just needs to stop trying to break bones with every single shot he throws and his cardio will be alright.

Yeah, he's spent a lifetime competing in fights that are three, 3 minute rounds so it makes sense that he has about 7-8 minutes of cardio in him before fatiguing, when you consider the additional 1 minute break he would get in Muay Thai. Basically he hasn't or can't adjust his cardio to MMA optimally even after all this time. Which is common, many wrestlers careers fail because of this as well. I didn't like Fiziev's ability to get extension on his punches either, he reminded me of an old Mike Tyson quote from his amateur days "Tyson, not a boxer who throws many jabs" I don't feel like Fiziev builds with his striking in a tactical way, he seems so reliant on his athletic gifts....which fade as his conditioning does. Meanwhile Gaethje was tired but could still fight much more effectively.

I don't think Fiziev is making 145lbs very easily and he will give up that speed advantage and jeopardize his cardio even more cutting all that weight. He's also so god damn thickly muscled you have to wonder if that itself just limits his cardio ceiling. But I think if he built more off basics and was more tactical and chose to use his explosivity in key moments maybe he could get a little further but honestly...I think this performance probably makes him more of a "fun fighter" athletic, explosive and technical striker with solid takedown defense but bad cardio and mediocre defense. He also, yeah, he isn't exactly solving problems when he's out there which is so crucial to success at higher levels.

he's not small he's just short. he kinda reminds me of Sean Sherk. his problem isn't being short, his problem is his gas tank and i don't know that going to 145lbs would fix that.

being short wouldn't matter if he knew how to circle and make guys give up their reach by coaxing them to coming forward. Gaethje would've been the perfect opponent to try that strategy on because he's very likely to follow Fiziev after Fiziev lands something big.

even if he fought out of more of a crouch it would help him clear the distance and allow him to not have to chase so much.

Fiziev still had plenty of chances to get to Gaethje he just didn't. it's not like Gaethje was evading all the strikes, Fiziev just punched himself out before Gaethje got cracked badly.

He clearly has the talent to fight at 155. He just needs to fight smarter. He's so fast but he needs to pick shots better. He fights like a violent KO artist, but he doesnt have the power to blow guys out of there...so he has to be alot more patient and conserve his energy. He,like Gaethje is too aggressive. His speed and reflexes is incredible though,no doubt.
