It's kind of funny. In Philly it was the Democrats who supported stop and frisk (Mayor Nutter) while the Republicans here argued it was illegal search and seizure.

Is there a big contingent of Republicans who support stop and frisk nationally?

It's not too much of a stretch, there are a lot of people who think the cops should basically be the Punisher, it's pretty easy to work stop and frisk in at that point.
