Fights the ufc has failed to deliver

Conor vs Dos Anjos in addition to yours. I feel DC vs Brock should be mentiomed ad they went so far as to face them off with each other in a cage.

Title is correct. The ufc hasn’t delivered these fights despite having all the fighters under contract. It is what it is.
They did whatever they could to make it happen. They didnt happen because events beyond their means occured. The title is skewed against them and it should not be so.

Actually the premise of the thread is to show how strong the ufcs business model is. It’s really hard for fighters to duck each other and it shows because of their track record.
Who is trying to duck who? I dont get it.

You're right, good call. I completely forgot it was official. I remember it was supposed to happen but I didn't think it got to that point.

Ahhh what might've been.... Aldo could've been the first simultaneous 2 division champion. I have little doubt that Aldo had the tools to beat Pettis when Pettis had the belt. Too bad Aldo was a respectful champion cleaning out his division instead of a loud-mouthed asshole

They cant force GSP to fight if he didnt want to. They had no cause to fuck with him on that. You had two big stars doing very well for the company. One of them didnt want it,but how could they really punish GSP for it? I think when GSP tried to get the testing for the Hendricks fight, they def got fed up with GSP,which shows the horrible treatment he recieved after the fight was over, but i dont think that is tied with the Silva situation.

Fair enough. One of the arguments I've heard is that the UFC just didn't throw enough money at GSP for the Silva fight. Not sure I agree with that, but I'll acknowledge that it's possible. I don't think that they could literally force him to fight Silva, but they could've definitely pushed it harder. When Dana has talked about it recently, he just said "GSP didn't want that fight, ever." Which makes me think money wasn't the issue. Who the fuck knows. Still pissed about it though.

My view is that initially GSP was for it,but the more he thought about it,he thought the risk wasnt worth the reward, and frankly he was putting up way more than Silva was.

It was win-win for him. How was he putting up more than Silva? Silva had more defenses, a longer streak, and was the "bigger" guy. To lose to the champ from the weightclass below seems to be the bigger risk. GSP losing to Silva would essentially just be chalked up to "this is why we have weightclasses", he'd keep his belt, and all of his divisional streaks would've been in tact. I think he felt obligated to say he was welcome to the fight, but always made sure to stipulate it, making seem as if it was never a certain possibility. Fuck, I wanted to see that fight!

Coleman - Lesnar?

I am a huge Mark fan but when Brock came around, Mark was a shell of his former greatness.

A few more...

Nate-Dustin
Nick-anyone
Shogun-Glover
JDS-Brock
Wandy-Chael

Jon jones vs Rumble.
Ronda vs cyborg
Not sure if these ever got close to booked but surely missed opportunities.

If the fight was scheduled it's hard to blame the UFC.

Fights like Anderson vs GSP or signing Fedor were HUGE missed opportunities though.

Rumble/Jones was booked, that’s a good pick. Ronda wouldn’t sign the contract to fight Cyborg at 145, only Gina.

He was smaller, fighting a guy with success at lhw,and it was very possible he'd get blown out early and then have to go back to ww,with none of the confidence he had before. Whereas if he has beaten Silva,it would probably be technically. Silva's health wasn't at risk, and he obviously thought he'd run over gsp which was why he was so eager to have the fight.

Ah. I thought you meant he had more to lose, not that he was more likely to lose. Roger that.

Rumble vs. Jones.

Look at boxing’s business model, the best fighters rarely ever fight each other.
It's just the way it is when fighters make so much money that they simply don't need to do what everyone wants. If you make 30 a million a fight you can basically tell the world to go screw. "Oh no dont take my belt who gives a fuck." Fighting is hard and they can afford to not jump when promoters, fans, etc say how high.

More and more ufc will have this problem when the money goes up. It has nothing to ducking, but doing things on your own terms. Sometimes the promotion doesn't want you to win and will try to put you in a situation that favors the other fighter. You have to look out for yourself at that point. Leon Edwards has to fight Chimaev because he has no leverage out of this situation. If he did,he'd rather fight a top ranked guy
