Fights that were closer than people think?

Magomed vs marreta
Similar to magomed vs Jan figth, i think 1st round goes to marreta, 2nd a draw, 3rd to marreta ( or 2nd to marreta or 3rd a draw, can't remember exactly )
And the last 2 are clearly to magomed, so he looks better at the end.

Excellent fight and I completely agree. Several times they were even landing simultaneously- Shogun low and Machida high. It was an insane fight. One of the best light heavyweight title fights ever in my opinion. And probably my personal favorite.
It's really too bad that it is remembered for the decision rather than the actual fight.
Awesome, insanely high-level fight between two specialists. Karate vs Muay Thai. UFC vs Pride.

GSP vs Koscheck 1, if Koscheck had landed that last takedown attempt in round 3 (props to GSP for that crazy sprawl), he would've won the fight.

IIRC, 2 judges gave Kos the first round, so it came down to that third round.

lol, no, Machida got outstruck at 2-1 or more every round other than the third and was the only one that took damage.
IIRC Shogun was landing everywhere on machida. Legs, body, and he's. But Machida landed almost exclusively only head shots so Machida had a huge head strike advantage. I remember people were justifying the decision by saying that head shots were weighed heavier than leg and body strikes.

Shogun took care of business in the rematch though.

Shogun landed more shots to the head too, it just didn't look like as much cause he was throwing a lot of low kicks.

Shogun was landing leg kicks. Machida was landing punches to the face. The fight was much closer than you seem to remember.

I suggest YOU watch it again, with no bias.

I have watched it many times at best Machida won round 3 pretty much every other round he gets hit about two times as much or more and takes more damage.

Yes, you said that.

Do you honestly think that the first two rounds weren't close?

They were close but Shogun landed more strikes and neither rocked the other, when you land about two times as much as the other guy the volume matters. I never said individual rounds weren't close I said the fight wasn't close, one guy out struck the other guy at 2-1 or more in 4 out of 5 rounds and he somehow lost, that doesn't make it a close fight, that makes it a robbery.

Like I said, Shogun was landing mostly leg kicks. Eventually those paid off, but in the first few rounds Machida was landing the better punches.

I'm not saying Machida deserved the decision, but it was definitely a much closer fight than you remember.

I think you should go back and rewatch that fight round 1 and 2 are pretty easy to score as Shogun landed more strikes and harder strikes including to the head in those rounds. The only round where the striking was close enough that you could argue the head shots may have won machida a round was in the 3rd.

I will give it a rewatch

Machida vs. Shogun 1. We'd barely ever seen Machida get touched, let alone drop rounds, so people assume it was a robbery when it was super close.

Good one. Machida-Shogun was a close fight, and much closer than it is remembered. Machida -Shogun2 not so much.

Jones vs DC 1

Crying DC meme and the ko closed the rivalry in Jon's favor. The image of Jon holding DC down by his head LOOKS very dominant for Jon.

But the fight was competitive. Jon won but it was no blowout. 48-47 with some close rounds.

Aldo vs Moraes

I dont see it as an obvious robbery, but i have no problem with anyone thinking Aldo edged it.
I thought Aldo won that fight. I have nothing against Moraes either.

People act likeJan dominated Izzy. I had Izzy ahead going into the last round....but what the fuck do I know.

Punk-Gall. If Punk connects with the knee it's goodnight Irene.

If you had izzy ahead going into round 5, then that means you would have had it 3-1 izzy, and thus even after round 5 you would have had izzy winning.....you sure you didnt have it 2-2 going into the 5th?
