Thread inspired by the video above.

So I ask you, can you name fights that happened before their time? In simple terms, it would have much more hype now than it did back then.

First that came to mind is McGregor vs Holloway, DJ vs Cruz 1 and RDA vs Jeremy Stephens.

Thoughts?

Finally an original thread.

I agree on Holloway Vs McGregor. Would really like to rewatch that fight today. I think Holloway gets it.

WTF? DJ vs Cruz has nothing to do with this...

GSP vs Hughes 1 is a much better and easier example.

You disagree that DJ on a 13 fight winning streak with 12 title defenses moving up to BW and fighting Dominick Cruz won't be a much bigger fight than the first fight? Ok.

Mach Sakurai vs Caol Uno
Mauricio Shogun vs Renato Babalu
Robbie Lawler vs Nick Diaz
Takanori Gomi vs BJ Penn

Too late now right? Cruz lost his belt, and MM ran from 135 as fast as his little A-level athlete legs could take him. DJ vs Cruz II is a lose/lose for DJ. Existing as the current 125 champ is a lose/lose situation because the landscape is almost as desolate as wmma.

Mike perry and danielle nickerson

Every fight with Erick Silva was just too early. Kid is just 17.

Cool thread, had to think of a worthy reply. Holloway-Poirier?

To an extent Anderson Silva vs Vitor Belfort

Conner fighting for a UFC title

Possibly Vera vs Sylvia

Arlovski vs Werdum arguably

Diego vs Florian

Ngannou vs Miocic. Ngannou clearly didn't have enough octagon time/experience and that fight made him look terrible to the point people compare him to Brett Rogers. Sure the hype was big .. bu it was just that : hype and the fight didn't live up to it to say the least :(

I still think Ngannou can go a long way, he just needs to learn composure and advanced grappling technique, not just use brute force everytime he needs to avoid a TD/get back to his feet.
