Why does this not seem like a common scenario? It seems fighters prepare for a specific gameplan and when things dont go their way THEN they alter their gameplan. Why not have contingency plans as in any decision in real life?

In Rothwell's case, prepare different plans based on round 1. Is it too much to ask for a fighter? I Feel certain elite fighters like Demetrious Johnson do this, why not many others?

It's hard enough to follow a gameplan.
2?!?

Rothwell is a bad example, He trust his chin and his power a little too much.
Put pressure should have been the way to go.
He didn't do it.

It's not like Rothwell could do the same thing that Reem did.
Not the same level of striking/counter etc.

I did have a problem with Rothwell not having a gameplan. Well, he did have a gameplan, but no changes were made during breaks. No takedowns, no nothing. Just kept coming like in round 1, but it didn't work agains JDS due to his technical skill and speed.

Are eye pokes considered a contingency plan?

rothwells eye poke game did the most damage but the ref shut that down.

That would have been a dumb idea anyways. Rothwell should have followed a more Cain-like plan and worked a clinch game against the fence. He never really tried to tie Jr up, everyone knows thats how you slow him down and instead he tried to stand and trade with him. That's Jr's bread and butter, stupid idea

Entwhistle on the same card. Going for leg locks then giving up when it wasnt going to work. I dont think Conor had a contingency plan against Nate unless you count panic wrestling.

Fighters would rather have one well practiced camp than two or more short camps back to back.

The risk of a Ryan hall delivering a Muay Thai clinic or a Brandon thatch spamming power doubles is *a* risk, albeit a small one that you don't really need a plan B for.

The problem I spose is Rothwell is slower and has worse cardio than Cain so was afraid of getting countered or gassing doing that. Looking back he probably would have been better off taking those risks as Jnr tired him out with bodyshots anyway but there were reasons why he chose not to.

I know people are saying that Rothwell didn't go after JDS, but how do you deal with speed? JDS was snapping that jab out there to the body etc. Good fight. I thought that at any moment, Rothwell could get Cigano against the cage and change the fight. But I'm glad it went the way it did.

He grapples with a lot of other fighters. He obviously hasn't watched any film on JDS cuz his plan of attack for this fight was dreadful.
