I am watching Michael Page fight and he has a side stance. It got me wondering, who in the UFC fights with a side stance and can you be successful or are wrestlers and takedowns get in the way?

And it has its advantages and disadvantages like antthing else.

It offers good distance management and makes it hard to grab a body lock.

Easier to dive for a leg and a bit easier to back your opponent up.

Didn't that Ryoto Machida guy fight with a side stance? Can't remember because facts about that dude are pretty sketchy.

Kalib Starnes used a bit of a side stance to avoid the lethal barrage of hammer fists from Nate Quarry, saved him from being brutally ko'ed, IMHO

Kalib "Dancing with the" Starnes!

Cro Cop has quite side stance with left leg in the back, essential for strong kicks. Thats why he was on top of the world's MMA in the ring, he needed that smaller space and corners to cutt movement of opponents and keep them in front of him.
And thats why he was less effective in UFC, because big round space allowed his opponents to circle away from his left leg, and he was not able to cutt off their movement in big round space.

Also kind of leaves your chin exposed and leaves no room for your neck to twist to that side if you get caught on the opposite side.

Wonderboy, Machida, Shabalaev, Cruikshank, Gunnar

Side stance practitioners can have problems with leg kicks and wrestlers with good single leg takedowns
