Fighters with Japanese Jujitsu background?

Brazilian Ju-Jitsu isn't really related to Jiu-Jitsu. I don't know why they call it that?

It stems from Judo's groundwork before they changed the rules to suit more Olympics and less martial.

Jigoro Kano practiced ju jitsu and created his form or practicing the art : Judo

Later Esai *Maeda moved to Brazil and taught the art to a Brazilian politician Named Gracie's children : Helio Gracie and Carlos Gracie.

Wait nm, Brazilian JJ isn't related to TMA JJ.

PLEASE THINK BEFORE YOU POST

Related was a bad word to use. Anyways, why don't they call it Brazilian Judo instead of Brazilian Ju-Jitsu?

Ohh I get it. Judo must have been considered a subset of Jiu-Jitsu at the time even though no one really thinks that way today. So, it made more sense to refer to the Brazilian version as a new form of Jiu-Jitsu instead of a new form of Judo.

I believe I read in an older thread asking the same question that Gomi Takanori uses Japanese JJ. But it's been a while, so I may be mistaken

Judo = Jujitsu
Jigoro Kano just changed the name from Jujitsu to Judo.

Carlos Newton and Aoki.
I believe Enson Inoue is a black belt in both.

I seem to remember hearing Bisping talk about training it when he was younger, though I'm quite vague on it.

At one time there were many schools of jujitsu in Japan. Kano-ryu jujitsu (Judo) was one of them.
After WW2, GHQ prohibited to learn martial arts so many schools declined.

Kestings article is a good one.
Go tell a high-belt that... then tackle him.
I have. It worked fine.

Nearly everything that currently calls itself Japanese Jujutsu is a reconstructed form, created by merging techniques from Judo and adding Karate or kickboxing. Don't use make posts like this without distingushing between current JJ, which is comes from Judo, and old JJ, which Judo comes from. And if you absolutely have to do it, don't be condescending while writing your misleading post.

BJJ is a cousin of current JJJ, both developing from Judo.

What ? Helio and Carlos were taught JJJ by a JJJ master

Alexis Davis is a traditional jūjutsu black belt

I believe Mike Bisping has a background in some Japanese school of jujutsu. There are hundreds of different styles of jujutsu with different emphasis (weapons, fighting while wearing an armor, multiple opponents etc.) Saying that somebody has a black belt in Japanese jujutsu is like saying somebody's favorite food is energy

The reason the Brazilian art is called Brazilian Jiujitsu and not Brazilian Judo is because, at the time it was first tought in Brazil, it was not called Judo yet. It would have been called Kano Jujutsu. Later on, Kano changed the name to Judo.

Because Japanese jiu jitsu and especially aikido both suck.

Four pages, and no mention of Akira Shoji? What a bunch of jerks!
