Fighters with Japanese Jujitsu background?

Im curios to know why there are no fighters with Japanese jujitsu background, I mean I reckon it should have all the elements that judo,bjj and even aikido has since thats where these arts come from which in a way should make it a more well rounded style of grappling that has standup throws and groundwork.

Yet I don't hear any fighters talk about or practice any form of japanese jujitsu.
 
Thats because the Gracie's decided they better take credit for almost anything affilated with MMA.

But I mean even they can't deny japanese jujitsu. I mean it should work since the moves are general techniques found in Judo,Bjj and Aikido. Except the only difference is that Japanese Jujitsu is not sport oriented which means like Judo/Bjj who have their own rules which their technique and strategy is centered around.

It also has the small joint locks in aikido without the over the top philosphy of aikido that is embed in the aikido culture. I reckon this would make jujitsu ideal for mma because its not Judo rules, its not bjj rules but just a general technique of stand up and ground grappling that is ideal for mma.


Unless I am assesing this the wrong way?
 
Roxanne Modafferi used JJ her whole career. That and Judo served her well in the first half.
 
I'm sure there were quite a few Japanese that fought in PRIDE that were well versed in JJ.
 
I believe Nate Marquardt is a black belt in both Japanese Jiujitsu and Brazilian Jiujitsu.

From what I've seen / experienced it is more due to the training methods that JJJ commonly use - generally they seem to incorporate less use of rolling / randori and more scenario based training with little to no resistance offered by the Uke / opponent.
 
I believe she is a double JJ blackbelt in traditional JJJ and of course BJJ. Shes a pretty awesome fighter too BTW.
 
I think your right on. It was never really adapted to be used in MMA. And I could be wrong but I think its one of those TMA's that could teach you to kill or incapacitate pretty well but is not as easily applied to MMA. However, the more MMA evolves Im sure we will eventually see someone repping JJJ at the highest levels.

The problem with Japanese Jiu-Jitsu is not the techniques, but the lack of randori/rolling/sparring. Jigoro Kano figured this out over a century ago.

It's not so much a joke as that it is not dynamic or updated like bjj. They share a common ancestor but from my buds that practice it they don't compete or spar as much.

BJJ and other grappling arts are so amazing not just because of their history of creation but also because competition keeps pushing the limits on gameplan athleticism and knowledge.
