Probably did them because of the name change wanted ease people into it and not confuse people i guess. The thing people know is all of a sudden called something else so i can see why.

I didn't love the name World Series of Fighting. They somehow lowered the bar even further with Professional Fighters League.

PRIDE was supposed to be just a one-off event. Basically was Takada-Gracie (How they intended to make Tak win who knows) and an undercard of Takada's partners and disciples in Kingdom Pro Wrestling, that later went to form the Takada Dojo; famous pro-wrestlers in Japan in their own right; a japanese Karate mega-legend, Renzo for extra Gracie cred, and a bunch of scary big Gaijin fighters. UFC pioneers like Dan, Kimo, Big Daddy, Oleg (That had fought in Japan before), that were still very relevant in 97, and a K1 legend like Branko, an Australian Strongman, and a Dutch greco guy I honestly know nothing about.

An absolute blast and treat for the Pro-Wrestling/NHB afficionado in Japan at the time. In fact, it did so well that we had Pride for 10 years.

And don't be so harsh. Remember that that very year, Dan has fought Coleman for the inaugural UFC Heavyweight Championship, (Tank was probably the UFC biggest star), Kimo was in the UFC roster still, Renzo and Gary were at the begining of their fighting careers, Branko had fought Mike Bernardo, Sam Greco and Musashi in K1 in the months before ...
 
This thread is a damn interesting blast from the past. We need IFL, IFC, Extreme Fighting, World Combat Championships, SuperBrawl, King of the Cage, Gladiator Challenge, Bodog, IVC...

But you got me curious about IFL as used to watch it live and enjoyed it gave us stars like Big Country and Big Ben
