As we all now, getting paid is all about bringing in viewers and attracting media attention to the UFC and to a lesser degree fighting abilities - eventhou these two things are highly related.
We live in a world of social media. If you are not in social media, you do not exist. This is something most fighters get and most are active on twitter, instagram etc. Some are doing a really great job like Weidman, Northcutt etc. who all got interesting instagram accounts to follow. But doing just these things don't really put you out from the rest or catches people already interested in the sport.
Another thing is going the TV-route. Page Van Zant is on Dancing with the Stars - a great move that will put her out there. This was before her doing TV-shows but in her loss against Thug she made 40,000. In comparison to her fighting skills she earns alot of money. Now, obviously, she is cute and has alot of going her way because of her looks but she also pays alot of attention to her media appearances and is building her brand. Gus is another example of how a fighter is building up his brand by being on national TV. Now in Gus case, he also has alot of going for him by being the only really successful fighter from his country(with Latifi coming up). But at least he is doing something.
But let's say you are a young man kicking ass and is just signed to the UFC. What can you really do if you are not looking like Page Van Zant and posses her dancing skills? This is an open question and I would like your input. Personally I would advise something like:
Become a f*cking youtuber and do videos about your daily life. Youtube are full of bums having 100 000+ followers making fitness videos or about their lives. Why are noone jumping on that train? If you actually have some young, somewhat charismatic dude who won a couple of fights and you can follow him in his life training, cooking and living the "fighter life" etc. that would bring in viewers and out-of-the-octagon sponorships. Just imagine some young guy like Jake Mattews. Not only would be reach the demographics of male and females 15-25 around the world but it would also help him build up his australian following. The potential spread of youtube videos is amazing.
Another great example is what Mighty Mouse is doing. He is a likeable dude who is a great twitch broadvaster. He got 42,000 followers and is growing. Him doing twitch probably helps him keeping his xbox deal and makes it sweeter too.
