Can someone please explain to me how anyone who's job it is to get into a cage and smash someone's face in with their elbows and try to break their limbs is someone to look up to?

Don't get me wrong, I love the violence, the carnage, and all that come with bloodsports - but the one thing I will never get is why people are so focused on these guys as people... Personally, I couldn't care less if fighters are racist/wife beaters/drug abusers/super cocky dickheads/bullies/whatever - the reason is that I know that eventually the fighters i dislike will be brutally KO'd the old fashioned way. Its a fight - why are people so intent on seeing fighters they dont like get banned/shunned because of who they are, not how they fight?

<JonesDXSuckIt>

I hate the way people treat this like a real sport - it absolutely is not a real sport - its almost completely unstructured, universally unregulated, there is no league/legit ranking or points system for the fighters to know where they're at, the championships are given out via whim rather than win, and nobody is in charge, and its not ever gonna be Olympic (skateboarding is more of a sport)... And that's not a knock on the fighters, who go though intesne training to become athletes - its a knock on the way they're efforts are virtually worthless in a world that offers zero guarantees, incentives, or prospects besides the next fight... Its a joke.

About personalities; Josh Koscheck... I absolutely hated that guy. I wanted him to get beaten so badly he'd need feeding through a straw before every one of his fights, and when he won and taunted the crowd, I used to get super triggered - and now I miss him... I miss all the good heels - they've all gone and turned onto these sanitsed carbon copies of the fighter before them... Dont even try to tell me about Colby fucking Colvington. Goddamn wannabe heel with a chicken heart.

Koscheck being awesome:

Anyway, i know this has been kind of rambling, so if you're still here, thanks for reading...

I guess the point I'm trying to make is that we need to just enjoy MMA for what it is, and stop trying to take things away from it... Let the fighters be as evil and nasty as they want - it just makes the fights better and more exciting when yoh really want to see someone get smashed.

Personally I think that MMA needs an overhaul in the way its ranking and inter-promotional system works to bring it up to the modern day in terms of being a proper sport, but sissies whining on instagram about fighters bad habits/criminal records/political views and going on witch hunts isn't the way.

I agree with your overall point, but

I couldn't care less if fighters are racist/wife beaters

I think there are some moral limits even for our beloved human cockfighting.

A racist wife beater is still a disgrace even in a bar fight.

Wow, you typed a lot. I made it half way through. I love the sport. I don't look up to anyone except for Fedor and GSP.

Based off the title and the gif's alone, since I didn't read the rest, I'm gonna go ahead and agree. C level athletes in a human cockfight. No need to church it up.

So we don’t have a card full of staph infected competitors? Skin falling off in the cage and shit.

its a big mistake trying to turn guys in tattoos hugging into a proper sport

Probably because some people are idealists and want their MMA heroes to be wonderful and lovely people like their other heroes.

Also known as GSP fans.

Nah it's evolving, and you're a Neanderthal

This is the type of shit you hope people outside of this site don't see.

The fact that there's an unconscious dude on the ground receiving attention kinda means he didn't just give him a Valentine, albeit he did it in a respectful way.

I love it all bro... I just wish fighters were allowed to still be themselves rather than all trying to be the comlany stooge... We might even see more stuff like that happen.

You're talking about one of the youngest sports in the world. It hasn't even reached infancy yet. Of course it isn't perfect or anywhere near perfect yet. All sports start somewhere. It's never going to have the popularity of soccer, football, etc. But that surely doesn't make it less of a sport. You've obviously never trained any form of martial arts. This is absolutely a sport. Please do the MMA community a favor and stop watching. Stick to street fights on YouTube. That sounds like your cup of tea. It baffles me how some Sherdoggers have zero respect for the sport yet take the time out of their lives to create an account to discuss it online.

I didn't say that the people involved arent athletes... I said that its not a proper sport because its not regulated in a way that makes the participants any more than one night prize fighters, rather than properly competing in a system that allows them to succeed on merit and achievement... Right now its all cojones and corruption.

And I've trained in various countries at various disciplines, have the injuries and gear to prove it, and I guarantee you that I'm older, and have been watching this shit for a lot longer than you.

If you added lobster and caviar, it would be a glorified--and distinguished--bar fight.

You clearly have not seen many bar fights, much less been in one. If you had you would not be spewing this John McCain 90's bullshit.. It's a combat sport, and yes it's brutal. Boxing is also very brutal, even more so arguably. Don't even get me started on NFL football and that isn't even combat.

There are refs, judges, and both men are trained and have agreed to to the terms of the fight. Not to mention they usually show respect and shake hands both before and after the fight. And do TV interviews FFS lol...

Answer this: how many bar fights involve high level BJJ, wrestling, and striking? Answer is none. Your "argument" has no legs to stand on

I agree. I don't care what they do in their personal lives as long as they entertain in the cage.

The UFC'S mishaps does not mean it's not a sport. The longer the sport exists, the more well regulated and organized it becomes. Again, it's a very young sport that has only had a few solid promotions. Boxing started somewhere too. Congrats, you are older than me. As a former D1/D2 wrestler I have ex-teamates who are fighting in smaller promotions so I absolutely take offense when someone trashes the SPORT so many of us love

Uh they're athletics, you wouldn't understand because you obviously never trained . It's different then a standard crap bar fight wtf , people love drama it's human nature of course people would be emotionally invested in a fighter .
