UFC veteran Maryna Moroz has been handed a one-year suspension following notification for a failed drug test this past July.
On Tuesday, Combat Sports Anti-Doping (CSAD), the UFC’s official drug-testing partner, announced Moroz’s suspension, which stems from a positive test for meldonium, a year-round prohibited substance.
Moroz actually failed two drug tests, one from a June 25 sample and one from July 16, but was not notified of the first failed test prior to the July test.

*According to the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), meldonium acts as a "metabolic modulator." It improves sports performance by stopping the carnitine activities and stops the mitochondria from being overloaded by fatty acid breakdown during exercise and instead shifts the focus towards breaking down carbohydrates, which requires less oxygen to be taken away from muscles.
What is meldonium and how does it affect the body?
After Maria Sharapova admits failing a drug test due to meldonium, leading sports doctor Dr Peter Brukner explains what the drug is and the effect it can have on the body.
